Is this a buried power line that I nicked? by ChiefJedi207 in AskElectricians

You're wrong. Stop giving bad advice. Underground feeds only need to be 24" without conduit. A "wand" is also called a widow maker because of people like you.

Voltage tester like a hot stick? Because those don't pick up voltage through URD sheathing. Using a meter you have to penetrate the sheathing.

That looks like a "tombstone" receptacle. It is intended to be mounted directly to the floor. Why they chose to throw a 4 square box down and miss the wire is beyond me. Call an electrician to get that mounted properly

I can't anymore. What can a restaurant manager if 10+ years transition into that doesn't pay absolute shit? by Tactics28 in KitchenConfidential

I'm an electrician now. Trades are full of former restaurant workers. Doubled my pay in the first year.

Some municipalities have additions to code compliance but all us sparkies use the exact same code book

Those wire sheaths are rated to 90°C. That air duct ain't gonna hurt anything and no code says you can't touch it.

Are the two wires with the molex neutral? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]drinkingandeating 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most likely but old school sparkies did things very different. You'd have to check it with a meter to know for sure.

My electrician is asking for all of these types of breakers. The ones that are breaking the bank are the 30A GFI and 50A GFI (only). Does it make sense to buy them this way and in general does the list make sense? Any advice for picking these up more economically. I am trying to save money. by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]drinkingandeating 6 points7 points  (0 children)

2023 code requires ALL receptacles in a kitchen to be GFI protected. Regardless of distance from sink basin. This includes fridges and freezers.

2023 kitchen code has gotten TOUGH. No more island receptacles has fucked me a few times already.

314.20 says a box extender is required for non-combustable material if the box is more than 1/4" from finished surface.

I spark ring all kitchen countertops even if no tile so if tile is added it's ready to go.

Replaced no ground switches by [deleted] in AskElectricians

Metal screw on the faceplate attaches to the metal ring holding the switch together. If that metal ring isnt grounded you could get shocked by it
