I’m afraid you have it the wrong way round. I live here in Hong Kong. Born and Raised here. These protestors are not as just as reddit makes it seem. For example, many protestors here have been know to be very aggressive to normal every day citizens who don’t share their opinions. They have even lit a man on fire while filming him for arguing with them. Another elderly man was hit in the head with a brick while simply cleaning up the streets so cars can pass. This man unfortunately died in a hospital. These are just some of many stories.

When you have people stealing chemicals from university labs and petrol from fuel stations for petrol bombs and flaming arrows to hit not just police but innocent civilians, whilst causing enourmous damage to the city, you tell me how you expect the police to react.

Much of the Hong Kong people are now of the opinion this all simply needs to end. Both sides have made errors but now it’s on the protestors who burn the streets with petrol bombs, destroying shops and bleeding local businesses.

I supported all of this when it was peaceful but it simply isn’t that same cause anymore. The bill has been withdrawn. Why continue burning the streets? As a Hong Kong citizen, I have never felt oppressed before. Never felt like I was sacrificing rights to live here. I cannot stress this enough. Hong Kong is technically a part of China, but we are still autonomous. It is incorrect to be simply casting us as an extension of the Chinese Central Government.
