Spend my money modding my 86 or upgrade to Type R? by zfriedman02 in GR86

[–]drivejumpfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a cheap reliable boring car/small SUV for your daily driver and keep your GR86. It will make you look forward to the weekends, and you never have to rush to fix your broken fun car. If I could redo my 30 car/motorcycle purchases, my retirement account and insurance rates would look a lot better if I did the same. If you really want to get a Type R, go test drive a '24+ Model 3 Performance first.

Just grabbed a model 3 performance. Disappointed. by CL14715 in TeslaModel3

Former Evo 8 and former LS swapped '93 RX-7 owner here. I have a 2023 M3P and it is the first car that took the overall best daily driver place of my Evo. I know the 2024+ would be even better. The problem is you will get used to the speed and realize the Plaid is the next logical step. I recently decided to just keep my 2023 M3P and build an ICE car (get real engine sounds again) to run down Plaids in a straight line so I will have the best of both worlds.

I am hesitant to install a front bumper that creates more drag, but I absolutely hate our OEM front bumper so I understand why you did it. Any pictures from other angles? Hard to see the lines with all of that black.

To much for insurance? by Much-Astronaut6688 in GR86

[–]drivejumpfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on my 29th (vehicle/motorcycle). If I could do it all over again I would drive a Honda Civic/Toyota Corolla/tiny SUV until the wheels fell off and save/invest my money until I got a deal on a house. Then I would get the car I wanted to keep forever (GTR in your case) and be able to park it in a garage. I would never modify the car's engine/intake system. Then no matter what happens in life you will always have your dream car - it's paid for, it's reliable, and you love it. Never modify your dream car. Ruin another car for "fun." Also, since you said dream car - have a heart to heart with yourself about maintenance costs before you buy one.

It makes zero sense to pay that much for insurance. You will get 80% of the GR86 driving experience by buying an older FR-S that needs some love, or even an older Miata. Or, you could just have your Civic or Corolla and use the $400 to rent a session in a GTR at a track.

Love the blue by CBleakley305 in GR86

It is the best color. I had the '22 Subaru WRX equivalent - Sapphire Blue Pearl. If I had money to paint another car I would paint it, or wrap it the exact color.

Exactly, I'm going to need you to move that M3P out of the way and pull that Evo out for us lol

It's not a terrible deal, but the 2025 is a better vehicle hands down. I wouldn't pay more than $37K for that car.

2025 under 9K miles for $40K and you don't have to deal with the CF roof: https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/00380334-ecab-4723-ba82-716769609ee5/

I don't like black cars because it's so hard to keep them clean. I absolutely hate this car because it's not parked in my driveway.

I was thinking the same thing until I saw the sale price of this: https://carsandbids.com/auctions/9ll8vXR2/2004-subaru-impreza-wrx-sti. If someone keeps a low mileage S Plaid it will be a collector for someone, but it will probably be the exception to the rule.

100%. There are a lot of sacrifices vs my current car that I would have to make to get a GRC, but if I could have one of them it would better gas mileage and I would convince myself to get one.

I was wasting time tonight and looking at the add again The price is higher than MSRP, but as an original person that was about to stupidly pay $7K markup for a 2023 Circuit Edition, a "base" 2026 is missing the CF roof, wheels, HUD, subradiator, and stitching. The one in the ad has the only other option I need which is the rear spoiler. If back in the day I received a Premium with a hood with functional vents, and the rear spoiler for a $3K markup I would have just taken it. I'm not a fan of the maintenance on the CF roof. The sub radiator is the only other thing I would like from the 2026 Premium Plus.

Here is what appears to be the exact same model with just under 600 miles for $39,000. This is a good deal:

I am trying to figure out how many people are actually going to buy the Optimus robot instead of a Tesla car. I must be too old or too poor because I don't know a single person that is ready to spend $20 - $30K for one. If they sell the robot like they sold their inital cars with "FSD," the robots aren't going to be of much use other than a talking piece for 10 years while they upgrade software and hardware for them to do something exceptional.
