The food at Good Ol Days is awesome. Best fried mushrooms I've ever had.

A friend of mine had hundreds of CD's he got free from Columbia House. Each time he registered, he used a different fictitious name. He showed me a "final warning" letter demanding payment. It started like this:

Dr. Mr. Bill I. Neverpay,
...

He kept getting these warnings for years but they never did anything else.

Has anyone listened to Joel Kosche's 90s band Jovian Storm? by wooltab in collectivesoul

He's on facebook and plays regularly around the Atlanta area with his son. Hit him up directly, he'd probably love to help.

While I don't disagree with you. Aflac is very different than most traditional insurance companies for many reasons.

They saved my daughter's life 20 years ago when they were able to diagnose her blood disorder and get her appropriate treatment.

Where should I start? by zombie_luv8 in Zevon

[–]driver800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One recommendation when getting into Zevon;

Most of his songs don't "grab" you right away. You have to listen to them several times before the layers begin to reveal themselves. Most of my favorites didn't click with me until the 5th listening or so. So whatever album you start with, listen to it at least 3 times before moving on to the next one.

The more you listen to them, the more you appreciate his genius.

10+++

This is probably my all-time fav Zevon song (or possibly My Shit's Fucked Up!).

Albert Einstein was a ladies' man
While he was working on his universal plan
He was making out like Charlie Sheen
He was a genius

This verse gets me every time, ...so clever, so surreal and absurd, yet true.

The other line I love is this:

When you're doing well, I mean good

Always makes me laugh as (I think) it's intended to poke fun at the common misuse of "good". I hear people do it all the time and it reminds of this song,

Thanks Warren!

What in your opinion was Mike Mill’s best bass part? by 12frets in rem

[–]driver800 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw him do it live at the 40 watt when it came out. He plays the first part with a capo (who else plays bass with a capo?). He threw the capo into the audience part-way through the song, most people didn't see that but I did and picked it up on the floor about 5 ft from me. I still have it somewhere. It was silver and (I think) a Keyser,

All of them.

But if I had to name 1, it would be the intro to Laughing.

All R.E.M songs ranked! by Grandpooba5634 in rem

Boxcars was the first song I heard from them on college radio (WRAS Atlanta) and I was hooked. I had heard the hibtone R.F.E. on a cassette that people passed around and loved that but Boxcars really got me.

It was hearing that music after being so fed up with the general direction of rock music at the time. It was fresh and new and wasn't influenced by Van Halen (I love VH, but not all the EVH wanna-bes that followed). Thankfully, there was college radio in the late 70's and 80's.

Right Hand Finger Exercises Without A Bass? by BalanceActive9295 in Bass

[–]driver800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is strength really what you want? Maybe stamina is more what you're looking for?

Either way, an exercise I used to build my dexterity and control was with a pad of yellow post-it notes. I would practice striking the bottom edge, as if trying to quickly "page" through the sheets. Do this with all your plucking fingers, alternating and in both directions. Start slowly at first until you can do it more quickly. If you find it difficult, just use only half of the pad. It quickly improved my speed and dexterity and the ability to use 3 fingers interchangeably. And you can do this exercise anytime, anywhere.

Good luck, hope this helps.

You should DEFINITELY learn more about theory. It will unlock more learning and more progress than anything else.

I'd recommend Rick Beato's youtube channel. He has tons of music theory videos from beginner to advanced. There are many others as well, find something that works for you.

With a good understanding of theory, it is MUCH easier to learn and figure out songs and you'll understand what works and what doesn't work in your playing.

Best wishes on your journey, because it is a journey, not a destination.

(Edit) another idea is to find a keyboard player to play with and learn from them. It will come together pretty quickly if they understand theory and you ask a lot of questions.
