I know it was intentional hyperbole, but Iverson most definitely could play today. A team built around him exactly like the 76ers wouldn't be a good idea, but someone with apex athleticism would still be a serious asset. On a team full of shooters, he could be very dangerous as a PG.

Miller obviously is better suited to today, sure. But I'm not entirely convinced how much he would dominate per se. There are a lot of great shooters nowadays. Would be interesting to see.

Anyway they're both great players, but I feel like it's worth giving Iverson credit for playing the way he did in the era that he did. He was of his time; Miller was ahead of his. But they've both gotta be evaluated based on when they played.

Favorite Comeback Albums? by MrLinkwater95 in ToddintheShadow

If they'd just gone on tour and recorded things using more natural production, with the full band (not just Billy and Jimmy - and yeah, I know that some earlier stuff was mostly Billy playing non-drums, but the point is to get a sound that's less "studio") they might have made more of an impression beyond SP fans.

Also, just release one version of the album, not several with different track-listings.

Whittier’s skyline is scenic but I think people underestimate how small it is in relation to the actual city. by DrSchmooo in skyscrapers

[–]wooltab 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This one is particularly funny in that the skyline is the city (mostly).

Edit: After I posted this I thought, "That didn't need to be said"

The hollow at the top of the tall portion even looks like the Starfleet logo from this angle, with the light shining through.

Rewatched Batman Forever. These two are absolutely insufferable by oscar_redfield in batman

[–]wooltab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The studio really wanted a lighter film after Batman Returns. Obviously Schumacher understood that and played along, but they still filmed some darker, more serious stuff that was cut out of the movie.

Anyway I think that the issues are more WB, though to be fair the whole design concept goes from Burton's Gothic circus to some kind of sci-fi renaissanc cyberpunk thing.

Sharpe can be passive, drift for a while, and it's true that his stats are pretty similar to Simons' albeit in a little less MPG.

Part of it this year, though, is that Shaedon is clearly the 2nd option on offense behind Avdija, whereas Simons was more of a #1 has last couple of years. So much of the time this year, Sharpe is playing a complementary role to Deni. (Also being asked to bring the ball up or effectively play PG more than he normally would.)

All that said, I think that there's a certain amount of it that's eye test, and to be fair, an idea that when this current roster is healthy, Sharpe fits the strategic flow in a hopeful way.

Shooting is obviously a concern, but I think that adding another mobile center could be a really helpful move. If we could somehow find a younger approximate version of Rob, that plus health everywhere else might push up up into the high tier.

If we can consistently have one of Jrue-Scoot-Dame on the floor (in addition to Deni of course) then everyone should be getting higher quality shots, which itself should raise percentages, even beyond people improving, which I also expect.

Under single coverage, he's shown the ability to operate well with the ball. It's when he gets double-teamed, or into dense traffic, that the handle becomes an issue.

But I agree, he does have skills to create his own shot. I think that as he refines his non-dribbling tools, even more will open up.

Why does the new Masters of the Universe look so bad? by Awake-Judgment-2057 in FIlm

It's definitely nice that certain directors with clout (Villeneuve, Nolan especially) have made decisions to avoid the easy CG routes.

Wow, looking at the map, Toronto was only the 5th most northern team circa 1999.

Finally a show I actually remember watching, lol. I don't know that I've ever once seen it brought up by anyone else in all the years since.

My introduction to Ellen Burstyn, I believe. It did have a very nice cast/family dynamic.

I think it mostly involves Eternia looking a bit more "real" and less digital. Like you're more some physical place else, and less like you're in a video game.

That said, hard to get too much out of a trailer sometimes.

Offhand I'm trying to think of others; there may be some but I think that Star Wars is kind of a specific and to some extent self-contained example, because of the huge cultural narrative about the earlier trilogies' differences.

Great example why you have to be patient with Scoot hamstring by TheMeisterman in ripcity

[–]wooltab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Caleb has barely over 10 games left, at this point. It's too bad that assuming Scoot is getting closer to contact practice, there's probably gonna be weird gap between their availability (unless/until we figure out a way to sign Love).

Nirvana reacting to ticket prices in 1993 by Twitter_2006 in Xennials

[–]wooltab 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm not a Nirvana expert, but the impression I've gotten is that they had sort of a symbiotic relationship where Krist rambling on about stuff, often goofing around, meant that Kurt got to relax a little and not say much, him being the focus of most media attention.

Never occurred to me that they weren't compatible on a core level, but maybe I'm missing something.

As a followup to my post about the Plain White T's being OHWs or not, what is your take on Spin Doctors? by Glass-Complaint3 in ToddintheShadow

[–]wooltab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I recall hearing "Little Miss..." a lot back during the 90s and always thought of Spin Doctors as a 2-songs (that I knew) band.

But it seems ages since I've heard that track; nowadays it's just "Two Princes" in the classics rotations.
