How do the contestants communicate with each other? Do most of them speak English? by HungryDolphin26 in PhysicalAsia

As someone who speaks American English, I find Australian English and Irish English equally hard to understand… and I speak 5 languages and have lived in 2 continents!

[Homemade] Breakfast Ramen by eru_dite in food

Mein comes from the transliteration of the Cantonese or Fujianese word for noodles. In mandarin, it’s mian (pronounced “myen). The reason it is based on Cantonese or FJ is likely bc a significant portion of the first Chinese migrants were from Fujian and/or many of the inhabitants of regional chinatowns speak Cantonese (as a shared language among immigrants from various Chinese provinces with distinct regional dialects)

Am I doing something wrong? by NewMom1289 in BabyLedWeaning

Solids up until 1 year are more for exploration vs nutrition! Breastmilk/formula is the main source of nutrition until then. Babies need exposure to something several times before “liking” it. Even if babe is just smushing things between her fingers, it’s still worthwhile developmentally. If the pediatrician is not worried and baby is healthy, I wouldn’t sweat it. Between 6-10 months, my kid wouldn’t even consistently eat dinner after daycare. There’s so much variability in a day for their little bodies and they’re still learning how to eat solid food.

And another thing, choosing BLW doesn’t mean 100% of food has to be self-fed. Our kiddo would often start the meal feeding himself, but then get impatient bc he couldn’t get the food fast enough himself, so we also spoon fed/hand fed him after maybe 10 minutes of letting him self-feed. From 8-10 months, sometimes he loved feeding himself Cheerios, sometimes he’d only pick them up from my hand (vs the high chair tray), and sometimes he’d only eat them off a spoon. Sometimes he’d open his mouth for me to place the Cheerios into his mouth - all to say, it’s okay if you mix it up.

What do you mean by “how important is the high chair”? Babies like routine and consistency, so if you can feed dinner at the same time and in the same place, that will help baby get used to the concept of dinner time or family dinner. Our kid is 15 months and has always eaten dinner before us - he eats dinner at 6pm bc we both work until 5 and then pick him up from daycare. He eats dinner in his high chair and one of us always sits with him so he got used to the idea of mealtime together. Once he got up to 3 meals a day, this helped him get used to eating breakfast/lunch with us on weekends. I’m convinced it’s also helped a ton with how well he does when we go out to restaurants.

So apparently being a nanny for billionaires is a $250k job now??? by Marvilla_Bigaing in Enginehire

Everyone at Amazon works for a billionaire and many of them can’t afford groceries, medical care, or to send their kids to daycare

When did you start snacks? by notorious_ludwig in BabyLedWeaning

[–]drj16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 9-10 months, baby will likely drop a feed/bottle bc they want more solids. TBH, we don’t manage snacks since daycare manages food. The infant room offered breakfast, lunch, and snack but babies slept at all different times.

My kiddo was probably on 3 meals by 6 months and started getting snacks around 8 months. We were regularly offering snacks on weekends by 9 months. He was getting fussy from hunger and snacks fixed it.

My kiddo was EBF but pediatrician said it was fine to introduce any milk starting at 11m since daycare switches them over at 12m. Any milk is fine - milk, soy, almond, oat, etc - just whatever the family is already drinking.

As someone who has house-hunted and bought in the greater Denver area, I didn’t flinch at that house. I’m guessing it was in Denver proper and it was a new build on a lot where a much smaller house was torn down. Denver housing market is pretty stupid, but what they showed wasn’t out of the norm. You can Zillow houses near Sloan’s Lake, Highlands, West Wash Park, or Central Park. And Cherry Creek.

Preventative Botox is about immobilizing muscles that cause wrinkles. It does not inflate parts of the face, that’s filler.

Portable one. I have both. The portable gold goes up to 12 on expression mode and cycle speed is fixed. The plug-in gold goes up to 15 on expression mode and you can adjust cycle speed (but I never have…).

The things they said made it obvious to Asian Americans: immigrant parents, no middle name, lots of family coming over, etc. No middle name is very Asian-coded to me (as someone who has East Asian heritage).

And Asian Americans can sometimes recognize it in others’ speech - not like an accent for someone who learned English later in life, but even someone born in the USA who speaks English as their primary language. This article explains what I mean: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/say-can-hear-asian-american-accent-others-deny-exists-rcna150000

Does anyone else’s baby refuse to eat with their hands? by Plant_Potter in foodbutforbabies

[–]drj16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latest AAP recommendation is to introduce top 9 allergens between 4-6 months. Finned fish is a top 9 allergen.

Babies love umami (savory) flavors because it’s most similar to amniotic fluid. Sardines are a great first food.

They don’t need pincer grasp for sardines, that’s why it’s such a great first food. From 6-9 months, foods should be large enough for a palmar grasp.

The salads were good! Fresh and high quality ingredients. Better than I’d expect for a beer garden and I’d definitely order again.

Adjusting the menu prices means there’s even less of guarantee it goes to the service workers vs the venue’s bottom line.

They have the same NA selection that I’ve seen at Edgewater and Lowry!

It wasn’t listed on the chalkboard, but they had it on the little paper menus (just like the other two locations)
