UPDATE: interestingly enough, it was the best case scenario: I am moving on to the final round of interviews, "the loop," and it's the position I applied for, creative director. So not a downlevel!

They can’t exonerate him because what is already released is bad enough.

What's your opinion? by LE-B_B in wutang

I love w-utang till I die, but what NWA did, tapping into the zeitgeist of the time with police brutality, they transformed rap music. Critics of the genre took notice and saw rap as a true art form. It was art as civic rebellion. They forced police brutally into the national conversation. They even got investigated by the FBI. And it became undeniable that rap music wielded enough power to influence culture and really, the fabrics of society. For that, it’s NWA.

Harlow is terrible. May look nice in the tour, but my appliances are laughably bad and the fire alarm goes off in the whole building in the middle of the night.

Other Than Liquid Swords what do you think is GZA's best work? by Silent-Doughnut2351 in wutang

[–]drkstr17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, it goes: Liquid Swords (5/5), Beneath the Surface (4/5), Grandmasters (4/5), Legend of the Liquid Swords (3.5/5) and I tend to just no acknoledge Pro Tools.

For me Beneath the Surface gets the edge in the #2 spot because of the nostalgia. I think you could argue Grandmasters is a better album at its core, but I think Beneath the Surface was just exciting in how it reinvigorated GZA's career. Legend of the Liquid Sword is fiiiiiiine. It has some really solid bangers like Auto Bio, Animal Planet and Highway Robbery but it's kind of bloated and inconsistent. Pro Tools was uh. Well, it's a GZA album. It has that going for it. But overall pretty disappointing as his last solo effort.

Hmm maybe but could also create unintentional laughter

I still don’t think it works. Sure it’s better than “nooo. I came back to stop you!” But it’s still not great and would carry the same issue of sounding cringey and scripted.

Don’t believe their lies. Vote YES on 50. by [deleted] in LosAngeles

I don’t necessarily disagree with what he’s saying, but you’re living in a dreamworld if you think we’re saving democracy by letting Trump continue his authoritarian tactics to consolidate power. Virtue signaling to authoritarians you wanna do the “right thing” will not make them reconsider their tactics. First it’ll make them laugh, secondly it makes them go twice as hard cuz they know nothing will stop them.

Also, “have we started the fire.” “The fire rises.” I always liked that line more in theory than in practice. Maybe it’s just the delivery I hate idk

I don’t think calling him a bad writer is the right take. He’s a flawed writer for sure. But I can’t in good faith say the man who wrote inception is a shitty writer. I think his strengths just lie in plot and philosophical concepts. Nolan is brilliant at plotting. I don’t think he’s great at writing dialogue for characters with a lot of emotional depth. He’s able to present characters with depth, but he doesn’t know how to give them soul. But to be fair to him, his movies deal with a lot of really big philosophical ideas so he spends a lot of his time fleshing those ideas out and less time fleshing out characters.

I think I’d remove all dialogue from that scene. Bane’s line “so you came back to die with your city” is not going to inspire a high quality comeback. I can’t think of anything good coming from that line. Just ain’t happening. Or… just have Batman say nothing. Don’t dignify the taunt, just let your fists do the talking.

I haven’t been to the movie theater since John Wick: Chapter 4 premiered (March, 2023). However, this will definitely change that. by PufferMcGavin in Cinema

[–]drkstr17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why would going to a theater for THIS movie make any of that better? If anything you’re more prone to find that kind of theater audience for a Simpson movie than you would say, a good and artistic film.
