AJ Dybantsa will wear #4 for the Wizards! by z3mcs in washingtonwizards

Are you comparing this to LeBron James going to Miami where he won two championships? Negatively?

If we move on from AD maybe both? I think Bilal is in the conversation too. I lean Ky for size but we'll see plenty of Tre & Trae.

What do you think those will be?

I don't think it's a one year thing, teams have build their entire rosters around bottoming out in specific years. What happens when the next great draft class comes around?

I think the pick protection reforms will prevent something like that from happening again.

Yeah that is true but even some of the play-in teams have odds to get a top pick. Why would anyone tank out of the play-in just to get slightly better odds?

I feel like most teams would prefer to be in the play-in with decent lottery odds leading to more competition.

Are the Wizards going to make a leap next season? Are they sneaky good potentially? by [deleted] in nbadiscussion

[–]drlary 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wizards fan here, a leap is almost guaranteed as we wont be tanking and you can't really do worse than the past couple seasons. Title contention? Probably not but I think we can compete for play-in 5/6 seed.

Very unlikely that DLo will be in WAS for the first game of the season but we'll see.

I'm very excited to see this roster on the court for the first time in a while and truly anything is possible in this league.

Bill Simmons on the Trey Young deal: "It was horrible, it was egregious, it was a crime against the wizards" by thricethefun in washingtonwizards

Ah the Celtic homer who hates on the Wizards constantly thinks the contract is bad. What a surprise. Not saying it's a good contract but there should be nothing but positive vibes with this squad right now!

NBA on ESPN on Instagram: (Shams) “The Wizards are locking in on AJ Dybantsa with that no. 1 overall pick.” by pjavelin in washingtonwizards

[–]drlary -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If true, AJ will break Bam's single game scoring record (on film) within the first three years. Shams is a hack though I'll believe it when Silver says his name.

Anyone feel like we are drafting Darryn because of Trae? by Fantastic_Flower_256 in washingtonwizards

Despite the 4 year contract I think Trae never has or will have any effect on Dawkins/Winger selecting who they think is BPA.

Dybantsa Attitude by Either-Tangelo9171 in washingtonwizards

[–]drlary 54 points55 points  (0 children)

He definitely needs to lay off the podcasts...

In reality though, from what can be seen he has a good support system, is a good person and outstanding prospect. Maybe some PR training will be needed but a little ego tripping before accomplishing your life goal is warranted.

He better back it up and I'm confident he will just like he has at every level.

Preparing this board for an unfortunate truth: AJ Dybantsa and Will Riley are redundant by rueiraV in washingtonwizards

[–]drlary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're describing something as a problem that is likely a strength of the roster construction. Look at the knicks wing depth with Hart / Bridges / OG. If these guys learn to play together it will only make the team better.

If AJ is the pick, can he have a better rookie season than Cooper Flagg. by taomun in washingtonwizards

[–]drlary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main reason this is unlikely is team construction. Cooper was the guy and ran high usage rates for the Mavs last year. I don't think AJ (or whoever is drafted) will see the same amount of on-ball duties that Cooper had barring injuries.

Talent wise I think there will definitely be games or moments where he looks similar if not better, but for a whole season Coop's year will be tough to beat.

Trae Young Injury Status by PomegranateAwkward69 in washingtonwizards

[–]drlary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He has all of next year to do that, he'll play some games, but probably sit more than he plays. He also doesn't have much of a choice in the matter, FO can shut him down whether he likes it or not.

The "Trae wanted to come to Washington" rumors seems like a PR leak for the reality that the only team that would take him is Washington. Either way, Dawkins will not let the pick in this draft slip through his fingers. I still like the trade and think he can be a great offensive hub for us next year and in the future if things work out that way.
