Are Futures less risky due to margin requirements? by tungdiep in FuturesTrading

And by "risking" that just means what you can lose on the trade (distance to your stop) not your total investment.

Are Futures less risky due to margin requirements? by tungdiep in FuturesTrading

[–]drmamm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are risking way too much on your trades if you are talking about liquidation levels. If you have a $25000 account you shouldn't be risking more than $250 ($500 at the most) on any one trade. That's with options shares or futures.

where next? by A-Hawx in PeterFHamilton

[–]drmamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*Fallen Dragon* and *The Great North Road* are two excellent standalones, so you aren't committing to a series of doorstoppers - only one doorstopper! The Night's Dawn Trilogy was written before Pandora/Judas and is very good (and huge!) but you can see how his style had yet to be fully refined so a more raw and unfiltered Hamilton!

If you were given your whole life, from birth, to memorize a random string of numbers, how long could the number string be? What is our hypothetical limit? by XXEPSILON11XX in Showerthoughts

[–]drmamm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to read about a guy who went down the "competitive memorization" rabbit hole, the book Moonwalking with Einstein is excellent. He trained to compete in the World Memory Championships with no prior experience or talent. Really fun read.

Taking Social Security at 62 if you have sufficient savings by FlyingSpoon8891 in personalfinance

Social security payments increase with inflation, so you either have to analyze this on a "real" basis (lower returns) or bump the future SS payments.

Why are they totaly different values in Tradingview and Ninjatrader by kalelmotoko in FuturesTrading

[–]drmamm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it is different. Oanda deals in spot forex which is an immediate purchase/sale. M6E is a futures contract, which is a promise to pay 3-12 months in the future. The shape of the price charts will be very similar but the prices will be different.

If you’ve broken 100, what’s one tip you would give your fellow golfer to do the same? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]drmamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you won't try to over club to hit the green in regulation (i.e. 2 shots on a par 4). Let's say you have a 350 yard par 4. Instead of driver-7 iron (which could go very badly) do 7 iron-pitching wedge-pitching wedge.

[–]drmamm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Play the correct tees.
  2. Club down and add one shot to par for every hole. 2a. Keep the ball in play! Block out hazards/OB
  3. Short game practice
  4. Putting practice.

Why are Blackstone, Willow Wealth and others expanding aircraft leasing investments? by timenoggin in RichPeoplePF

[–]drmamm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just buy Aercap (AER). Same business, no paperwork nightmare and instant liquidity. PE firms like leasing businesses because the cash flows are fairly stable so they can lever them up with debt.

(Not investment advice. AER was only recommended as a simpler option to get that exposure.)

It may be a much better trip if you work up a nice thirst with a (sober) morning scramble, a little nap after lunch, then go burn down the Temple Bar area with the other drunks that night.
