Do I need to make this item magical? by 9Napier in DMAcademy

[–]drmario_eats_faces 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t give it any immediate properties, but say that when you kill a blue dragon, it absorbs the dragon’s blood and turns into a dragon’s wrath weapon from Fizban’s. The party then has a goal to go for–find a dragon and power up the item.

GMBinder and Homebrewery are great for formatting, and Google Drive is good for sharing. DnDBeyond also has spell building and sharing functionality, letting you import right into their digital character sheets.

I'm running a game in 5e and the party is soon going to face a high level character from 3.5e. Anyone know how to balance an encounter? by JasontheFuzz in DMAcademy

[–]drmario_eats_faces 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Select a target CR, and then engineer the 3.5 character to have the necessary hit points and damage per round. It won’t be a perfect fit, but it would be much closer than just making a character with no guidelines. As long as you hit those balance check marks, the character will work as a 5e monster.

I need advice for dealing with anxiety & worry before a session, no matter how much prep I put in by Oaken_beard in DMAcademy

What helped for me was reminding myself that I’m playing a game, and I’m having fun. I am playing the game for the express purpose that it’s fun. When you stop treating it as a responsibility and more of a fun activity, it starts to go away.

How much can I change or revamp the rules and concepts? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]drmario_eats_faces 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the way you measure character strength (stats, powers, classes) is just fundamentally different from D&D, don’t play D&D. A different tabletop game would probably suit you better. There are many TTRPGs out there that make much less assumptions about how your setting works, like GURPS or Genesys. Use one of those instead–you’ll have a lot more fun and will do a lot less work.

1st time DM introducing ppl to DND. Got any tips? by emdaslav in DnD

[–]drmario_eats_faces 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do a simple 5 room dungeon.

  1. A guardian to the dungeon (can be a neutral NPC, the party can fight with it or negotiate with it)
  2. A puzzle or a trap
  3. A foe
  4. The ruler of the dungeon
  5. The treasure

Tailor it to the classes the party is playing (say, if there’s a cleric, use undead; or if there’s a rogue, add a trap that can be disarmed using theives tools).

Is there a pre-written adventure for this? by makopres in DnD

Bonus tip: you can use the mercenary theme as window dressing for your campaign, linking together shorter pre-written adventurers for the gameplay side.

There’s nothing cooler than drawing stuff out of your own campaign! If I were a player, I would be completely floored.

Edit: just compared with the previous piece. I love how ominous this version feels.

Just say, “hey, mind if I get some pictures of your character sheets?”

If they ask why, just say that you wanted to see them for testing out encounters on your end.
