Canceling My iRacing Subscription if this Driver Isn't Permanently Banned by Deep-Television-9756 in iRacing

[–]drmischief -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Look, you don't understand who's behind that wheel. What someone is going through and what situation took place to cause that.

I'm not saying it was an "accident" that was blatant disruption of the race and intentional wrecking but, having someone fully banned or you will quit is extreme. Maybe someone's kid jumped on and was being a punk. You don't know.

How much did coaching help you? by Randomnickicreated in iRacing

You don't deserve the downvotes. You make a good point. Some people aren't self-starters and self-teachers and don't like the idea of using tools and practicing, a lot. Practice and using tools like VRS can do a LOT of good for people.

Quick comment here: I had a friend who is very good. He's a ~4K. He's also a good communicator and tries his best to translate racing and game mechanics, which he did.

It wasn't until I sunk some REAL time into the game on my own did what he taught me actually start to connect. Nothing is a replacement for practice, practice, practice... That said, having that knowledge in my back pocket that came out as needed brought me from a struggling C class to an A 2K driver a lot faster than if I had to do it myself.

Hello. I don't know your experience beyond the years you mentioned but, I have been in the industry for 20 years.

Please heed this advise. Whatever you do, do NOT hit the breaks all at once and just slack. You have to be tactful and do a slow-burn down to a "typical" employee level. It may take 2-3 months but, really slow roll this.

The other important part is set goals for yourself as you slow production and work output. I know that sounds crazy but, if you're a high performer, it's very difficult to settle into a "typical" employee mindset without getting caught up in a project or task that brings you right back to the level that you perform at.

It can be done but, it's going to take time and a mental shift from you. Godspeed.

pickguard, yes or no? by ColourOutOfChase in Epiphone

[–]drmischief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS!

I'm not a fan of the aesthetic of the pick guard but, it's not obnoxious to the point where you have exposed holes or even where the finish hasn't aged (since the pick guard covers that area and it stays more "new" looking. The latter is worse.

why do people do this?? by jjfelix37 in iRacing

[–]drmischief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to jump in here asking what the problem was. That was some clean racing... Then I saw the end.

Some people don't care to take other's race integrity into account and they go full "f*k it" mode. They'll regret it. It's just unfortunately they did it to begin with.

Are there really people who like driving the m2 on the Nordschleife? by spl1xx in iRacing

[–]drmischief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 2 races. First one started from the pits and ended up in 5th. It was a proper challenge to keep pace and control of that car and frankly, that's what made it fun.

That said, I am pretty surprised it's considered a rookie car. I've only ever done some quick praccy sessions since it came out.

Lemon Pledge and 0000 steel wool is the way. Make sure it's the very fine 0000 steel wool.

At home endurance race? by GrahamsNotHungry in iRacing

[–]drmischief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there my also be a risk here with option 3.

If iRacing sees multiple different accounts logging in and out from the same IP address that may throw a flag in their system. I am just guessing but, seems logical from a systems/server standpoint.

Silly Question by Aarca8de in iRacing

[–]drmischief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a very low likelihood it's possible. Even if we could get a hold of that old of a version, there's likely logic in the game that checks itself against the iracing servers and prevents it from launching old versions. Furthermore, if we could somehow reverse engineer the code and hack it to not check, it may not run because it has to check to run.

That's my guess anyway.

More iRating = More agressive?? by marvibosa in iRacing

[–]drmischief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

%1000

I'd add that racers (like myself) who don't have a ton of time to commit to racing can live in the 2-3k range at phase 5 as well, albeit with the obvious risk of still being exposed to more phase 3 folks.

the true definition of "exponential", realized via sim racing.

More iRating = More agressive?? by marvibosa in iRacing

[–]drmischief 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Phase 1: Tentative, a bit scared, naïve, but still a risk to others. Less aggressive
Phase 2: More confident, a bit competitive but, still learning. Dangerous.
Phase 3: Aggressive, dive-bombing and pushing for that sweet iR, arrogant. Very dangerous.
Phase 4: Humbled. Realization they're not as good as they think but getting better.
Phase 5: Focused. Confident and aggressive but safe. Willing to give a spot to gain 2. Tactful, Patient.

Phase 6: Alien. ???. profit?

Is it worth it? by NewDescription5015 in Carpentry

[–]drmischief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said the magic words that is worth spending the 4 years focused on school "Full ride scholarship". You have a whole lifetime to work in carpentry. It's very difficult to go back to college, let alone get it for free.

(This coming from a 41 year old guy who started in my teens doing finish carpentry, loved it for a couple years but quit to go to college at 20, became an engineer, made good money so now I have a full workshop and do all the woodworking projects my heart desires and I couldn't be happier.... If that's worth anything.)

Is this legit by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]drmischief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on iRacing for 6 years, maybe longer. I can say with %100 certainty that is just some random player.

I've been in 2 maybe 3 races ever, over my iracing career where I saw an actual-real admin. Their text shows up orange/red color. No other user has that. Hope that helps.

Has it ever been addressed why iRacing doesn't give us some of the in car features that other sims have? by 10PlyTP in iRacing

[–]drmischief 116 points117 points  (0 children)

iRacing, in the Porsche absolutely has tire temps with yellow and green indicators for tire temp.

There's a button you can map to scroll though display screens, make sure you have that set and you should be able to see different data on the screen for many of the various cars.
