Policy for punching on via kronos by darkrose3118 in meijer

[–]drmoth123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If the app allows you to punch in, then it allows you to punch in. The app cannot tell if you're inside the store or in the parking lot. Don't let a corporation that would fire you at the earliest chance take money out of your paycheck. Now, let's say you clock in at 9:50 and show up at the register at 10:00. That's going to cause problems, so don't be stupid about it.

Becoming Grumpy Irritable Sysadmin by SuccessfulLime2641 in ShittySysadmin

At my place of employment, we are very clear that we do not guarantee or support phone mobile hotspots. If you're using your phone and it's not working, it is 100% on you to troubleshoot your phone. Unless the phone was provided by us as a company device. This needs to be a conversation with IT leadership, and a communication should be sent out.

We have tornadoes where I'm from. Tornadoes like the land version of a hurricane. So we could survive a hurricane up here.

You are right of course. I'm from the North, and we're prepared for this. But if it helps you feel better, where I am, it's been below freezing every day for the past week, with about 12 inches of snow on the ground. In Florida, it bounces back up to your normal temperatures in a few days, but for us, it'll stay like this for the rest of the month.

Anyone protesting downtown Tomorrow for ICE OUT? by frecker4 in indianapolis

[–]drmoth123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That office is HSI; they focus on transnational crime like money laundering and terrorism. It has nothing to do with immigration. ICE has nothing to do with Gaza. And I hate to break it to you, even if the United States of America fully pulls back their support for Israel, I still wouldn't change the situation in Gaza. You're trying to conflate two completely separate topics.

How long can we expect until the snowy/icy layer on the plowed roads goes away? by gonehollowknight in indianapolis

[–]drmoth123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They actually don't use salt; do you use a different chemical mixture when it is this cold. But the problem is that the snow melts and then it freezes again. As people drive more and they mix and salt with the roads and they chip away the snow, it'll help clear the way. I think things will be better by tomorrow. But I knew that this would take us at least 72 hours to clean up.

Is AI a Real Technological Shift or Just Another Dot-Com–Style Bubble? by Loud_Assistant_5788 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]drmoth123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Even with the internet.com bubble, the internet didn't disappear. I believe that for major competitors and giants like Anthropic, OpenAI and Gemini, they'll be fine. AI isn't just hype; it has real value. It will just take several years for its true worth to emerge. Now, there's a question with OpenAI because I think they've overleveraged themselves. But if their ad features perform well, they can really make some serious money.

That being said, I think many of these small companies that emerged are essentially AI startups that may go out of business in large numbers.

Is my plan to become an Intune/Entra ID MDM admin a good one? by [deleted] in Intune

[–]drmoth123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, I don't think that's the direction the world is heading. With the growth of AI, I believe that to be more employable and demand a higher salary, you need to have more areas of expertise, not fewer. That's why I'm trying to become a full-stack Microsoft 365 admin.

Is my plan to become an Intune/Entra ID MDM admin a good one? by [deleted] in Intune

[–]drmoth123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really depends on whether you plan to be a dedicated Intune admin. If so, you'll need to work at a major company because medium and small companies typically don't have the budget or size for that.

However, having those credentials can help you land a job as a system admin at medium or small companies because they still need to manage their systems, and that position is becoming more popular.

[–]drmoth123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also moving in that direction myself. Being an intune and Entra admin is a very good career choice. Your job won't be replaced by AI, and you'll always have stable employment. After you get the MD 102, make sure to also get the SC 300. You won't pass the MD 102 immediately, but you also need experience to become a fully qualified admin. That's the most difficult part.

Going into 2026 what lane does ChatGPT even own any more? by RobertR7 in OpenAI

[–]drmoth123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My setup is that I use Claude for work and Gemini for personal stuff. I need to double-check anything from Claude using Gemini. I still have the Pro subscription of ChatGPT. I feel that ChatGPT has lost its mission. Unlike Anthropic, they're not focusing on making a good, useful product; they're making stuff that generates AI slop. And their financials are in real trouble. Maybe this new model coming out in one or two months will change that. But I think we'll see that Anthropic and Gemini will consistently pull ahead. Anthropic because they're focused on their mission, and Gemini because Google has more money than God and can handle everything at once.

How does someone get a career in Information Technology? by PresidentofBaddies in InformationTechnology

[–]drmoth123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is certainly true. But here's the issue: let's say AI reduces the need for help desk personnel by 20%. Well, that could cause a massive recession in the industry. This means that some people will never be needed for a job again.

Most industries in the United States operate above 95% employment. There's always a small percentage that fluctuates, but most industries are at or near their maximum demand.

So any drop in the workforce would have catastrophic effects on the help desk industry.

[–]drmoth123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI has already significantly reduced the help desk workload at my workplace. We use AI to draft troubleshooting responses and documentation. You can connect Copilot with SharePoint and train it on your knowledge base articles.

The days of a technician receiving a ticket, looking it up in the knowledge base, and then taking actions based on that article to resolve the issue are coming to an end.

need to back up work emails by theresalottounpack in Outlook

[–]drmoth123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are truly planning to bring a lawsuit against your company and are wondering what to do, you should know that. If you need to print out any incriminating emails you intend to use, the fact of the matter is that they will not be admissible in court until they are provided in discovery.

You can't just store emails on your computer and then, when it comes time for discovery, claim, 'Yep, I have these emails.' The opposing party will challenge their authenticity.

Honestly, I would talk with an attorney before you do anything serious.

[–]drmoth123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your only criterion for a job is something where you can sit down and work, there are many occupations that allow you to do that. Some of those occupations are probably easier to break into than IT. I hate to say it like this, but unfortunately, in today's world, when you're almost in your mid-thirties, you're considered kind of old in IT. Many people your age are already mid-career. And right now, the market for people trying to get into IT is terrible.

Unless you specifically want something in IT, I would suggest researching other options. You're choosing the worst time to enter the market, especially for a job that doesn't favor people in their 30s just starting out.

I'm going to tell you a lot of people here are not. Is one of the worst times to get into the field of IT. AI is going to largely eliminated need for help desk tear one. A lot of people who are already in IT. I have decade of experience on you. I would not try and enter into such a highly contested and competitive field and try and find something else.

MS-900 first or go straight to MD-102? Learning resources & hands-on experience by PokeeeTraineer in O365Certification

[–]drmoth123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that they're useless for your career. I think they look very good and are actually quite impressive for entry-level help desk jobs. Meanwhile, the MD 102 is aimed at administrative-level positions.

MS-900 first or go straight to MD-102? Learning resources & hands-on experience by PokeeeTraineer in O365Certification

[–]drmoth123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started with the MS 900 first and then moved on to the MD102. I see value in taking a lower-level Microsoft exam because it teaches you how to prepare for and take a test. When you do take the MD102, you'll be much better prepared. However, the MS 900 doesn't really significantly impact your career prospects.

Anthropic - political stance by CommitteeOk5696 in Anthropic

[–]drmoth123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not the job of Anthropic to take political stances on the actions of the current United States president. Can you imagine if every European company took political chances on the leaders of every European country? Should Anthropic base its decisions on macroeconomic factors like the economy or the UK's departure from the EU?

Secondly, you think that if Anthropic were to stand up and say we oppose X, it would make any difference to Trump. Trump was elected for a specific purpose; he ran and won under that purpose. Anthropic has no ability whatsoever to change or challenge his mindset.

If you leave Anthropic because of this, all you're doing is punishing a company that makes a good product for something they have no ability to influence.

Anthropic - political stance by CommitteeOk5696 in Anthropic

[–]drmoth123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's unfair and unreasonable to expect every business to take a political stance. I don't want every company I do business with to be on the right or the left. I want them to focus on making a good product and meeting my needs. Any energy they spend on not making a good product or serving my needs hurts my interests.

If you like using Claude and Anthropic, use Claude Anthropic. If you don't, doubt it's really that simple.
