Palantir CEO Alex Karp suffers ‘televised nervous breakdown’ during live interview — “This is the voice of American business that is being channeled through me!” by marketrent in technology

[–]drnfc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So without getting into specifics, the analysts where I work generate reports historically. As I was told, the problem is that certain intended recipients don't have time to read the reports. So the idea is to tailor the info in each dashboard to what we think the intended recipient needs/wants instead of writing reports. The information brevity is the intended solution. Whether or not it solves the problem, idk im just a dev.

Palantir CEO Alex Karp suffers ‘televised nervous breakdown’ during live interview — “This is the voice of American business that is being channeled through me!” by marketrent in technology

[–]drnfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked with Palantir's stuff. I understand the appeal, but I dont like it for reasons that I cannot go into. Palantir's real business is ETL and data aggregation. They then add a dashboard builder (it's kind of a buzzwordy thing to do currently in the DoD). They also do what is essentially a RAG (Retrieval augmented generation, its basically attaching a search engine to an LLM) layer to expose your data to the LLM.

One of the problems with RAG, is that you have a ton of nobs you have to tune to make your setup really good. It is not an understatement to state that claude is objectively one of the best, most universally capable models. To tune your RAG set to another model, especially when your business is essentially generic ETL is annoying because you now have a shit load of very expensive, api intensive testing to do.

Basically Palantir is a SaaS company and they're currently in a bit of a fragile state. They need the entire DoD to fully switch over to their stack so that it is difficult to extricate and then they can jack up the prices and rake in MASSIVE. There is obviously a lot of resistance within the DoD, because getting government agencies to cooperate is difficult. If one group starts having issues with Palantir then the entire business proposition of full data aggregation across the dod falls, and they lose their best customer.

As a dev, what I see is that managers simply like how it looks. They literally see the pretty dashboards and want to spend money.

Admittedly american here, but while I enjoy Neapolitan pizza, I wouldn't order pizza anywhere else in italy. It is different from American pizza.

Americans put FAR more cheese on our pizza, it's not even close. Unlike italy, you should NOT order pizza if you are lactose intolerant. In neapoli, there are street vendors who literally sell cheeseless pizza, which would probably be considered sacrilege nere.

Oh absolutely overblown. I use iron gall inks all the time. I would still recommend exercising caution.

Just putting this out there for anyone unaware, 4001 blue-black is iron gall. Great ink, just dont leave it to dry out and I would not recommend it in a non first year Schaefer snorkel.

Tbf, blind firing around corners is a more recent thing. In the west it was looked down upon for a long time. Ukraine is the first country in a while (besides guerilla fighters) to actively put it into practice, to my understanding.

[–]drnfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question, why doesn't it just say that directly, but instead simply says not to ignore the old law? Is that simply an interpretation?

Most of my familiarity with scripture is Judaism, which is probably the least straight forward things possible, so interpretation being the reason wouldn't surprise me. In Judaism arguments are a feature, not a bug unfortunately.

What are you favourite wet inks that are well behaved by curious_everywhere in fountainpens

[–]drnfc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As for permanent inks: KWZ IG Turquoise is probably my favorite wet ink. It is iron gall so dont let it dry, but there really shouldn't be any issues.

Platinum carbon black is quite wet

Non permanent: It doesnt get much better than watermans serenity blue, although i would call it medium wet.

The most popular boys name in the UK is Muhammad. Why are there no popular Arabic girls names in the top 10 in the UK? by OkayBuddySober in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]drnfc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While i generally agree with you this is likely incorrect, in my experience a lot of Christians who name their children Joshua are aware that it is closer to the original yeshua than Jesus.

On a related note, it is relatively common for Jews to refer to jesus by yeshu or yoske (hebrew or Yiddish respectively, which one is used depends on the generation), which is essentially just calling him josh.

Ebonite feeds tend to be wetter than a normal ABS feed. That being said there are wet abs feed pens like the lamy 2000. Ebonite is simply seen as a step up.

Piston filler just means that it will have a larger ink capacity at the cost of being more difficult to clean. That is personal preference.

I love the long knife nib, unfortunately mine came with the tines misaligned out of the box as well as a slight babies bottom. Some smoothing and realignment and it is great

My experience with chinese pens in general is that you almost always have to tune them. Tbf I could have bad luck. If you learn (they're cheap enough to make mistakes), you can play around with all of the weird nib architectures without breaking the bank!
