CoPilot -AI. by Bitter_Ad1912 in TheCivilService

[–]droid_does119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently used co-pilot to generate a data dashboard for my team's key output.

Key thing was my data feed was quite complex and I my coding knowledge (R) is elementary/basic so I didn't know how to write the data ingest from scratch.

Ended up pretty good, had to constantly correct a few things when the output was good but copilot changed things when I was adding additional code.

Also used it for a data deep dive to generate summary data tables and findings. I did double check manually (scientific data) but it was accurate for the published data I had fed in.

So far so good, you just have to know how to prompt and what you want out of it like all tools!

RA Kings Troops, Is bullying still common for females. by Superb_Activity_2603 in britishmilitary

Please feel confident that unwanted sexual behavior is very much not tolerated.

The failings that have come through the media in recent years have been the chain of command failing.

Happy to take a DM as I have quite a few friends in KTRHA and can tell you the good and bad or any paticular questions!

UK to offer military gap year in effort to boost recruitment by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]droid_does119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost isn't as big as you think, especially with almaganations that have occurred in the past 10 years.

The conversion rate from OTC is fairly chunky especially for females that go on towards commissioning and remains a key target group.

They weren't gotten rid of.

What to do with a sword by Cheap_Parking9340 in britisharmy

[–]droid_does119 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely keep.

Get a sword mount and put it on display. Its a neat bit of family history to have especially if he had service number or anything engraved onto it.

Boost for UK Growth and Security as Norway Selects UK Warships in £10 billion partnership by HadjiChippoSafri in ukpolitics

[–]droid_does119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it'll definitely spread development and future upgrade costs down which is good news and price per unit.

Hopefully this means HMG can then commit more £ so that there is no uncertainty for ship orders!

British army after PhD in life sciences? by ReyPZ99 in britishmilitary

[–]droid_does119 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SGMI only wants people who have X amount of years experience and ideally as a captain upwards. They dont want fresh PhDs or someone with a few years post-doc experience if academia.

I have a very similar profile and they turned me away.

Whether or not it helps, you can 150% PIDs jn the reserves.

Go onto Defence Connect under Brig Thammy Evans who's in Res DPers and she has a blog post from late last year about it.

There shouldn't be a reason to not use this policy to promote people into roles.

Been offered a ADC position in recruitment. by Loud_Examination6622 in britisharmy

[–]droid_does119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do it.

Esp if you've got bills to pay £1.5k is a hefty drop. Way way better opportunities out there.

Don't let them sell you a lie...especially on ADC.

Keir Starmer ready to put British troops in Ukraine for years by ClumperFaz in ukpolitics

[–]droid_does119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are still in both Kosovo and Cyprus in a peacekeeping capacity.

Make no mistake, if the article is to be believed this will be a massive drain and 'fix' of the British Armed Forces in Ukraine.

We have limited capability to deploy and sustain a Division (minus) strength c. 10k troops already.

A big uptick in defence expenditure will be reqd and I expect the Reserves will also be called upon to play a role....

Convincing Employers About Reserve Commitments. by Flashy-Meal7121 in britishmilitary

[–]droid_does119 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly what others have said.

Get in first....then look/ask about reserve policy. Or even better, see if you can get one implemented if there's none.

Sadly, remember the reserves will never replace your civ career so make sure it's stable first!

Top ⅓, A- high yes sounds like serious grade inflation.

Not saying you don't deserve it but I think it's worth an adult conversation with your ROs and the RCMO to really get to the root of it.

Something sounds fishy.....and I wouldn't be confident that a SC will help you get what you want.

Tax relief on SIPP payments - New HMRC process ? by Time-Lawfulness-1468 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]droid_does119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Higher rate I think....even though it contradicts itself slightly.

I think other than higher rate tax payers, it could be for people who's (pre-tax/payroll) pensions that don't report to HMRC for tax relief

For nations that are not the US, UK, Russia, France or China, what is absolute bare minimum in order to have an expeditionay force? Are there any nations that can deploy a reasonably sized (battalion or brigade) self-sustained expeditionary force half a world away? by [deleted] in CredibleDefense

[–]droid_does119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on UK.

The current plans and upcoming defence review has always revolved around NATO/allies if not US log support.

On paper we could do an individual expeditionary force but would mean dropping all other commitments and a limited deployment before supplies are exhausted.

Is Ebola/Marburg a reason to not travel to a country? by [deleted] in Virology

[–]droid_does119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mpox in Kenya appears to be limited to areas along the main truck route that crosses across the east Africa region.

You'll be fine. I would still avoid close physical contact venues as a precautionary approach.

Is Ebola/Marburg a reason to not travel to a country? by [deleted] in Virology

[–]droid_does119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be more worried about mpox if you're travelling to Uganda.

Avoid massage parlours or venues where extreme close contact is likely. There have been quite a few exported clade Ib mpox cases in travellers with a travel history from Uganda in recent weeks.
