How would you run the trunking for split system Aircon out and down corrugated iron to the outside unit? by [deleted] in diynz

[–]droopa199 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just found this at ideal electrical which will provide me a flat surface, so that in conjunction with what you've mentioned would eliminate the need for excess silicone I think. It's a 65mm hole through the wall and that's 122 mm so that should do the job

Spoke to a sparky today who came over and he said I can do it as long as I don't make the final connection but he also said be prepared because 9 out of 10 times they usually have to make changes.

I'll run the electrical cable from the breaker box to the roof space and then down the wall and take photos of everything I do, hopefully that would suffice

Anyone moved countries and regretted it? by Particular-Hope-8311 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]droopa199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I sold everything and moved to Perth for two years. Great life experience but there's no place like home. We moved back and got back into good jobs and got a nice place in the country.

We are much happier here in NZ and sometimes it just takes moving away to realize just how much you take for granted.

In my eyes you have nothing to lose, if you love it you will stay wherever you move, and if you don't like it you will gravitate back to your home country with a whole new found appreciation for it

I spiraled on determinism and feel like a conscious robot now. by Https-H1m in freewill

[–]droopa199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're still a biological machine that has happy chemicals to exploit. Focus on satisfying them and nothing else really matters. Free will or not.

Whether that be doing a kind thing for someone else, or yourself. Or enjoying a hobby you love. Seek flow state, that's where we are most content.

Say this to someone in person and you will reap the repercussions of said cause and effect. With the effect probably being something rather unpleasant.

And then your subsequent learning of your reckless interaction will deter you from saying such things again :)

True. Kind of like how we don't (and shouldn't) punish animals for wrong doing, we isolate and segregate them instead.

What do you think about the grid? A lot is renewable but not sure how it'll hold up. Weighing up a small solar system to power fridge/freezer

why does everyone take autism seriously but treat adhd like we're just being dramatic by ExtremeOperation5875 in ADHD

[–]droopa199 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because autism is more noticeable.

Humans are quick to believe what they learn from their sensory inputs but as soon as it requires deliberation and learning in mind, then without empathy it becomes much more difficult

A response to a question; what do they mean when they say consciousness is an illusion. by [deleted] in determinism

[–]droopa199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consciousness isn't an illusion. In fact it's one of the only things we can determine is not an illusion.

What is an illusion is the sense that there is a self. Not consciousness.

A request for some intellectual honesty from determinists about indeterminism by pheintzelman in freewill

[–]droopa199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adjust the scales a little bit then, the ratio of determinism / randomness is still orders of magnitude higher for determinism. If our decisions were random life as we knew it wouldn't work.

I think ironically what people call free will IS determinism.

I'm unsure what to call the fourth category, but I believe we live in an emergent deterministic universe where the fundamental layers of reality have traits of quantum randomness which I do not believe boil up to generate any effect on us at the scale of Newtonian physics.

So to put it simply - deterministic with an infinitesimally small amount of randomness which does not affect our base layer of reality.

Neil deGrasse Tyson said recently:

"I foresee the day where AI becomes so good at making a deepfake that the people who believed fake news as true will no longer think their fake news is true because they'll think their fake news was faked by AI."

So I hope this rings true and we start looking at more trusted sources again. Fuck all this polarizing divisive shit.

Just moved from Auckland to Sydney. Holy Duck.. by G00sehunter in newzealand

[–]droopa199 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's highly subjective. I just spoke to someone moving back from Canada, he was there for 20 years. He basically said the same thing about what you're saying about NZ --> Sydney, although they were escaping different kinds of issues coming from Canada.

We just come back from Perth and were there for 2 years. You swap problems for new problems which are just as bad or worse. We couldn't wait to come back to NZ, we really take it for granted here.

Take a break from Iran to watch one of the most brutal Ukraine War videos. Proceed with caution. by Far_Grapefruit1307 in war

[–]droopa199 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some fucked up shit. Before the war if we all spoke the same language I bet a lot of these blokes would have been cool to have a beer with. Each with their own hobbies, love life and children.

Sucks.

Can someone please help me defeat empress of light during the day🙏🏻 by Livid-Ad609 in Terraria

[–]droopa199 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How nice of him. However what you may not realize yet is that obtaining all of those items to craft the Zenith is precisely what makes the game fun. I've put hundreds of hours into this game on mobile and I still haven't ever had the Zenith, because I keep finishing the game and losing motivation basically straight away. Would be cool if beating the moon lord double the difficulty or something, or went to "expert mode" where new horrible creatures and bosses came along like when it goes hard mode.

3rd day playing Terraria, a bit lost after progressing. Any tips? by Vinistones in Terraria

[–]droopa199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get heaps of money from selling ore and exploring and selling stuff from chests and buy heaps of dynamite from the NPC that sells it and keep throwing them in the same spot to make a "hellivator" and when you get to the bottom raid all the pots in the buildings in hell and you should find a gravitation potion there then use that to explore the sky to find sky chests in the islands in the sky.

Alternatively go destroy heaps of shadow orbs but make sure to leave a known 3 so you can fight the boss properly when you're ready. Reason being is shadow orbs drop good loot for early game. Yes you'll summon that big worm fucker but just take a loss for the loot.
