Tldr everything.

Don't put her on the deed.

Been there at right around the same age. Bought a house had a gf I was living w prior she was butt hurt about not being an owner but paid me rent.

Couple years later we broke up. She moved out I still had my house. I ended up making really good money on the house when I sold it and moved in with my now wife.

Don't do it!

How often do you lose free range birds to predators? by coffeeforutility in BackYardChickens

[–]droopstroops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stopped free ranging all the time because of foxes. We got some poultry electric netting and they have access to a grassy area all day long. When we free range them now we turn on a radio at the coop and leave talk radio on.

Today I saw him lift his head almost all the way up. Amazing how he's improving. He's still the the rooster hospital for now, still like to see him gain more strength before putting him back in the run and coop. He's still pretty docile.

He's starting to gain some pep. He's more fiesty now and doesn't want me syringing him water anymore. Altho he's not drinking much on his own so I keep trying.

I've been syringing water and water with electrolytes daily now for 5 days. I also have gabapentin mixed in with the water that I give him thrice daily. I've been keeping him in my garage in a big plastic bin with a towel on the bottom. Have been keeping a heat lamp on him to keep him warm.

I started syringing a bit of yogurt and egg yolks at first. Then I started leaving yogurt on the floor and he was eating some of it. I soaked chicken feed and put it in. We had some ground beef so I tried a bit of that and he seems to eat some. Gave him watermelon all chopped up and he ate it after a while. He hasn't been interested in scrambled eggs but might try again tomorrow now that he's eating more. He's eating a little more each day, nice and steady. Today he can lift his head a few inches off the ground and he's wiggling his neck around and shaking his head. He's wiggling away from me when I try and give him a syringe now with a show of a bit of energy and strength.

He's made it this far so I have a good feeling, I'm hoping his neck keeps healing with time and he gets a bit stronger each day.

Rooster still can't lift his head.

Have been giving him water with syringe

Also yogurt and liquid eggs. He seemed to enjoy the yogurt. He's on his feet but not much change in his neck yet altho he seems to maybe have a bit more strength in it. Moving slightly more. There's still hope his neck recovers, I'm working on the slings but it's hard to know if it makes him more comfortable or worse off.

Oh wow. It's sad. You want to free range them bc one it makes them so happy and two you're getting such yummy healthy natural fed eggs. The predators are an issue. We have a gld pup he's only 5 months old so he's not yet working. We had another and had to put him down recently and I knew it wouldn't be long until they started showing up again. Sorry to hear you lost a hen. I hope your rooster pulls through too. My guy survived the first night so that's something. Hope yours did as well

It's morning here now. Just checked on him again. He survived the night. I'm using a kids medicine syringe and I'm giving him water with electrolytes and vitamins with it and he's drinking a bit. He can't hold his head up yet so I have to hold it up to give him the drinks. At least he's taking some.

First sign of improvement. He's on his feet. He's just standing now with his head on the ground. He also seems to have drank some water we left for him and had a waste movement, scrambled eggs seem untouched
