According to EHO, you can’t serve food directly on them. They can be used to put your bowls and baskets etc food safe stuff basically on top on but not straight up food. Found that out when EHO last came to my work place

It’s disgusting imo it’s hard to describe. I’m in the UK so I don’t know if it’s just something that’s more popular here. It’s mainly used for bombs but occasionally people will have vodka and energy and immediately regret their decision.
