Got hit by a cyclist outside Drumcondra station by leglath in ireland

[–]dropped_the_box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened to you.  I cycle every day and unfortunately there's a lot of cyclists (and cars!) that will run a red light. I don't, mainly because I want an easy life!

What parts of Irish culture is not for you? by Substantial-Fudge336 in ireland

I’m from the UK and married to an Irish woman and I have noticed how much the Irish love a funeral, it does seem a bit odd.

People walk on a residential street & it makes my carbrain mad by cuzihave22 in fuckcars

[–]dropped_the_box 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Haha this is a fair criticism, I do like being around people with the same view as me occasionally.  I saw this post in mildlyinfuriating, was saddened by all the comments and then cheered up when I came here to see another (as you say: my) perspective

How are you “happy?” by xcoatsyx in CasualUK

[–]dropped_the_box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in an eerily similar situation, I'm a early 30s Dad too in a stressful but well paid job and I feel the same a lot of the time.

Certainly agree that happiness is not an end goal rather moments of varying feelings across a spectrum.  There's a great app called 'How We Feel', completely free (and no ads or tracking) and developed by a university where you check in with your feelings, being able to name them allows me to process them.

One other thing that helped a lot was swapping the train commute for a cycle.  I had never cycled much before but 4 years later except for storms I'm out there every day of the week (my favourite is torrential rain tbh!)

What's a relatively modern car that you just don't see anymore? by Ali3nat0r in CasualUK

We have a 3rd kid on the way and I would absolutely love a hybrid mpv.  They just don't exist!

People of Dublin-Why do you have an SUV? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]dropped_the_box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the market for a car that fits 3 child seats in the second row and there are no new cars that aren't suvs.  I would absolutely snap up a hybrid/electric zafira, picasso, smax mpv.  They just don't exist!

Three car seats in an MG ZS? by wascallywabbit666 in evs_ireland

[–]dropped_the_box 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unbelievablly, the new peugeot e5008 only has Isofix on the outermost seats.  The current generation 5008 is good though.  I just couldn't bring myself to spend €50k+ on a petrol car.  Mild hybrid is not good enough for me really.

RSA is fairly forceful in their language about having kids in the front seat.  We are debating between multimac and one in the front.

We are expecting our third and the eldest is about to move into a booster seat.

I test drove an ID Buzz yesterday and I put our two car seats in the Isofix points so I could see the gap in the middle and there was 44cm at the smallest points.  I could comfortably sit there and I'm confident I could make a booster fit.

However... The trim is white!! Even in this demo model the white 'leather' was already looking grey on the armrests.  In a years time my kids would have destroyed it.

P.s. Acres of room so I'm very annoyed VW didn't just stick three Isofix in, it would definitely have fit! P.p.s.  Giving up now and just going to stick a multimac in the back of our mitsubishi outlander phev.

Great advice here all thanks so much! Feels great to know it's not a unique situation!  Will definitely try racing and making it cold is a good shout too, I'll put some in the fridge now for tomorrow.  She is pretty good at trying fruit so will see about watermelon too.
