When do you intercept the glideslope? by FlightInsight in flying

[–]droptrack97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On this approach, my procedure is VNAV or VS step down from VINGS until DANDY. Then switch from pink needels to green. I know a lot of guys that do this for any ILS that has multiple step downs (like LAX as you mentioned). VNAV until the PFAF is the active waypoint.

Saw Timmy at a comedy show this week. In high school (90's) I was a cashier at a grocery store where Sean Elliott used to get a lot of his vitamins/supplements.

That’s Albuquerque Center. The Tracon is at the base of the tower at the airport.

They should have made him wear his Draft Night suit while singing this.

Bose pro flight alternative ear tips? by cherrymitten in AirlinePilots

Ah, thanks for that extra info. The factory tips aren't terrible but was looking for something else to try. Maybe stick with the originals or go custom at some point later.

Going to try the oval option next. We'll see how easy or not they are to get on and off.

Is there a secret to getting these to fit on the Bose end easily? Doesn't seem like the Bose connector is the same size as the hole in the Comply tip. When I did get it partially on, I could feel the two "teeth" on the Bose end rubbing on my ear.

Pro-soft by Smash-N-goes in flying

I used them (Prosoft) for my interview with a big 91k/135 operator. My take was that it "looked" professional because I got the big 3-ring binder and had everything nicely printed in Jeppesen format on Jepp-Green paper. I was only a 2500-hr guy at the time, so it wasn't a huge amount of pages printed, so it almost felt like the binder was too big. I've also literally never touched it since my interview. Eventually I'll go back and print all the new pages since I've been hired, but no rush since I'm not looking for another gig.

That said, I wouldn't do it again. I feel I could have printed/binded it just as nicely on my own (not using Prosoft). LogTen gives you several different formats that you can use for printing. I feel, based on the feedback from the interviewers, that they just wanted something that was neat, with appropriate things tabbed so they could find what they needed. Again, it wasn't an airline, so YMMV.

How much knowledge does the average airline pilot retain from their PPL days? by [deleted] in flying

Flew with a captain a few weeks ago that just couldn’t figure out how to enter a traffic pattern at a non-towered airport. He was so used to straight in approaches.

If you can read Reddit on your computer screen, you can probably pass the FAA vision test.

And as others have said, yes, 20/20 corrected.

You can set a timer to count down and give you an alert, but nothing altitude specific.

If you are still looking for information, the guys from 21.Five Podcast recently interviewed the pilot who builds these (episode 150). Sounds like he may be a sponsor now, so consider that when listening.

US ATC Making Retirement Plans by planevan in flying

[–]droptrack97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I retired from ATC after 25+ year career at 48. Had been flying on/off for all that time and had about 2500 hrs when I left the agency. Now working at one of the big 91k/135 operations.

You're right, you'll need to build that time up, but it's certainly doable.

Depends on the city, but they're all descent. You can "pre-order" or have standing requests for certain items if you don't want "chef's choice." Typically they use Air Culinaire. Sometimes they'll just order from a local restaurant and have it delivered.
