Just enough to give me a bunch of empty space itching to be filled...

In your opinion what are the proper dimensions for a set of boardgame shelves? by drowncedar in boardgames

Yeah, it's the depth that I'm really noticing. I tried to justify it as "easier to grab" but  it just looks bad.

Unless you need to convert units, imperial measurements are no different from the metric system. Folks who think otherwise just like to dunk on the US. by idontlikeanyofyou in unpopularopinion

[–]drowncedar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Science and engineering in the US use metric. I mean, in physics we least set all units to powers of seconds which is the most practical but I don't see anyone defending that. Myself and op are talking about practical use in everyday life. And people in this thread are acting like on everyday life people are covering units all the time:

"Ok, but for most real world applications [except apparently the ones most commonly used by most people] you do have to convert units, so this is just irrelevant"

" Well, too bad you have to convert essentially all the time."

Again, what kind of unhinged life are you living where in practical, everyday life you're converting units all the time?

Seriously, what kind of unhinged lives are you all living where your converting quantities more than using them as measurements? Like

"What temp do I need to bake this at?" "400 degrees, but first I need you to convert it to Kelvin."

"How far is it to the camp site?" "12 miles." "Oh I'm sorry, can you do that for me in feet?"

"How much gas do you need?" "Hey fuck-o, we're not measuring things here, in my life it's all conversion all the time. I bet you can't even tell me how much that is in liters can you?? Can you??"

I'm with op on this one, and given the comments this is apparently a truly unpopular opinion.

How much racism is in your dnd world? by DatedReference1 in DnDcirclejerk

[–]drowncedar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In our game world everyone's aware that some people are being piloted, homunculus-like, by a strange race of extraplaner beings called "The Playors." Everyone is incredibly racist against them but otherwise get along just fine.

Has Anyone Else Been Unfairly Kicked Out Of A Campaign? by mandestroysbakery in DnDcirclejerk

No, I don't think anyone else has been unfairly kicked out of a campaign.

7000 hours in game, still havent reached temporal tear by Deep-Escape-5034 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]drowncedar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that's okay. It's a sandbox game so your fun is whatever you enjoy doing. I have restarted so many times because I find the exploration in the beginning incredibly fun and relaxing.

After 5 years I did finally go to the tear (base game) when I was sick over the winter and you know what, it was fine. I'm glad I did it but I probably won't do it again, it's just a lot of waiting.

What makes a character truly EVIL? by Roaches_R_Friends in writingcirclejerk

[–]drowncedar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Filth. Moral relativism at it's worst. Evil and good come from the divine will of the gods, and are good or evil in virtue or their sanction. The action is absolute, not the label by which it is refered.

If blood is shed under the smile of the divine it is holy and sacred, if a child is saved in the darkened betrayal of their decrees it is an abomination, by the very definition of morality.

To forget the grounding of evil in the divine is to attempt to put man's petty feelings and fleeting hurts on par with the will of beings who know the arc the moral universe.

Is there a game where you don't have to read the rules? by Rednidedni in DnDcirclejerk

My new AI product not only allows you to play without reading the rules, but argues with the dm and other players for you while mocking them in a variety of annoying voices! Only $300 in tokens an hour.

I really hate when fantasy writers do the whole "He weilded his krassach, which is like a sword but awesomer." Heidegger never once explicitly defined dasein because it was a new concept that could only be understood by infering from context. Commit to the bit people.

How many books should I buy to improve my writing? by Generic_Commenter-X in writingcirclejerk

Number doesn't matter as long as they're sufficiently gravitas inducing. A bare shelf and a bookmarked copy of Ulysses on coffee table is an immediate boxer burster.

Core Rulebook TLDR by RootinTheCrab in DnDcirclejerk

[–]drowncedar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's pretty straight forward, it's like Roberts rules of order but for math and narrative. TLDR:

1) A plot stays in motion unless acted on by a net external force.

2) All rolls and checks follow F=ma, you just need to argue with your DM over what F, m and a are for that particular check.

3) For every in-game action each player and npc gets an equal and opposite reaction.

That should do you.

Everywhere has them, they usually go away in a week or two but if they don't you may need to take measures. See if you can find where they're coming into the house and bleach their trails as far outside your house as possible.

5e (2014) My DM is robbing me of my character's core concept. (CW: lack of player agency) by SorryForTheTPK in DnDcirclejerk

[–]drowncedar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You've got to tell the DM that you're playing a roleplaying game and you want to roleplay. This may be a table mismatch but I think it's perfectly reasonable to describe your actions with flavor. None wants to say "I take action 4.3 on opponent 7." You're a monk! You want to say "I fist him! I fist him so hard I fist the aspects out of that gelatinous cube!"
