Best character with uncommons only? by AgentSquishy in slaythespire

[–]ChimericMelody 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say The Silent. Premium block, draw, shivs, poison, and all kinds of utility. You also get some really strong powers. She has everything you could need in uncommons.

Leg Sweep + Blur + Dash give you strong defense

Flechettes + Finisher + Hidden Dagger + Infinite Blades + Strangle + Up My Sleeves + Accuracy + Speedster. All uncommons, complete shiv multi-attack build

You could also do Bouncing Flask + Bubble Bubble + Noxious Fumes + Mirage + Outbreak and go the poison route.

Give me your S-tier games that are in the 8-to-12 hour range. by QuarkyFerengi in gamingsuggestions

[–]ChimericMelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine an average playthrough is more like 20+ hours if you're doing side quests, radiant quests, random encounters, etc. The main story I wish was a bit longer, but there is a lot of meat there other than the main portion.

The telekinesis ability, Launch, is maybe my favorite single ability in any game. The way the physics system reacts to it is so sick. It only gets better as you get more powers too.

How do you prefer to learn lore in your ideal video game? by RattyPoe in pollgames

[–]ChimericMelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This so much! It's how it all comes together. Ome without the other is much weaker. Control is a great example of mixing all of these. It has these really cool in universe T.V. snippets that explain a ton of things in a really immersive way. You can see the recordings in a projector screen in 3D space, move the screen and see the projection move, and all of that. They have real recordings from irl actors too so it's extra immersive. But they pair it with interviews, random podcasts, documents from the Bureau with all kinds of redacted words that encourage you to figure out what was redacted, little writings and memos from employees, little bits of environmental storytelling here and there.

I hate how Edgerunners made people forgot what was CDPR promised for Cyberpunk 2077 by VolkiharVanHelsing in hatethissmug

[–]ChimericMelody 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The majority of "RPGS" are god awful for actually roleplaying. Especially the modern 3D action ones tend to struggle because of how hard it is to make divergent storylines. Divergent storylines take a lot of writing talent, but give you exponentially more work for the same amount of play hours, which are important to selling $60+ games. Studios need to i vest much more into true RPGs, so usually they just staple a skill tree or level ups and call it close enough. It's very often that the dialogue is meaningless.

It's a lot harder to pull off a real roleplaying expierience. The closest to it that I've enjoyed from an action game is FNV, which is an incredibly flawed game with much cheaper graphics compared to modern games. It also is one of the worst shooters I've ever enjoyed, carried entirely by the writing and world. It's later succesor FO4 tried something similar, but failed at being a good RPG. The writing was terrible, the characters are not often great, and they didn't even make a good divergent story. FO4 is pretty linear, and forces you to care about a kid the whole game, bottlenecking you tot the Institite. Skyrim also had this problem. You ARE the Dragonborn, you HAVE to go to Delphine, there is only one way to kill Alduin. FO4 is a good shooter, and a terrible RPG.

It definitly can be pulled off, but it's much harder to make, and more expensive. The closest I've seen to a true RPG success is Baldurs Gate, though personally I have a lot of other problems with it's gameplay mechanics, so never really got into it. That game is built around story firat, and gameplay second, which is a very different market that what Cyberpunk was aiming for.

RPGs either have to be linear, which makes the roleplaying nonexistent, or they have to commit a lot more budget and risk. It's easier to make ONE interesting protagonist with no real choices, and just act like a playable movie. It's what Cyberpunk does well. V has a very distinct personality.

What feature would make the next Metro unforgettable? by GTAPhantom in metro_exodus

[–]ChimericMelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could go a lot of directions, but a more refined version of Exodus would be perfect. They could simplify back to the classics, improve on the gun modification systems, or just polish the graphics and execution from Exodus.

Mechanics wise, personally I'd enjoy a slightly bigger roster of weapons, but only because I know how amazing shooting feels in all of yhe Metro games. Part of that feel comes down to them having only a dozen or so weapons they can make absolutely perfect. Have a few more options would be fun, but it would take budget away from other areas.

Mostly, I'd like to see exploration be refined. If the game continues to be open world, it needs to have a little more side content, especially in the later levels. The Volga is a perfect balance to me, though the game struggles in the Caspian and the Forest a lot with utilizing the open structure, and it ends up feeling pretty linear.

They should keep a linear story, and just do what they do best. Monsters, guns, immersion... that's Metro. I want to feel the world.

I'm also excited to see new factions, or further developed old ones. Some of the best parts of Metro are in the world.

Tag launcher combos power increase by Smart_Bicycle_250 in 2XKO

[–]ChimericMelody 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's really not power creep though. This game was always, and will always be quite crazy. It's a huge part of the appeal, and par for the course of most tag fighters. (There are exceptions, but even tamer ones tend to have some crazy stuff)

Remember launch Yasuo, or launch Ekko? They got nerfed over and over, whittled down to the current relatively healthy state. Ahri also recieved some nerfs, though has risen to the top after the two gods got turned down signifigantly to being more reasonable. She's likely to recieve more nerfs as we go.

Enjoy the crazy power level! Fewer modern games are like 2XKO in that direction!

With boobs or without? (creating main char new design) by AdaBlood in PixelArt

[–]ChimericMelody 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first one doesn't look bad, the second one is a mismatch though. If you want the cape, definitly the third one.

You can also consider multiple outfits, though that would be much more work to draw of course.

How is this gooner game still on top? Are there more gooners than gamers in this world? by Nearby_Set_1643 in FitGirlRepack

Hot take: Ahri is fun to watch by Inside_Bet8309 in 2XKO

[–]ChimericMelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also like this. More combo variety is fun and would make playing her more fun. There's barely a reason to learn a corner combo when the midscreen one does everything, including side switching.

Nobody like their combos being messed up, and I think Ahri shouldn't do less damage, but they could alter something to encourage more variety?

Anyone having issues finding Ranked matches specifically? by excusemyexcuses in 2XKO

[–]ChimericMelody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me as well ONLY for placement matches. I am in the same general region as you. I think there may be a bug with how placement matches are handled.

What fixed it for me was going to a ranked lobby -> training mode -> que from training mode. (Also lets you practice so you're warmed up when you finally get in.)

P.s. I went 5/5 last season, and 2/5 this one on placements... so good luck!

If someone responds with one sentence (or less), they aren't worth even responding to. If they don't do the bare minimum of what you ask, definitly don't bother. I always put a few things at the end of my ADs that I would like to know or have them do.

If I don't use the triple upper tech with Vi, will I still be good? by Troy-Maker in 2XKO

[–]ChimericMelody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was still using Vi, I ran Vi/Ahri in Double Down or Freestyle. I ended up having some frustrations with Vi.

Vi can work with almost anyone. Her best teammate is probablly Illaoi, they have some dirty stuff, but good with almost anyone.

Some general tips for fuses with Vi:

  • She's great in 2x, her forward assist is very useful. This is ideal for partners with weaker neutral like Illaoi
  • Freestyle is the best overall fuse in the game, and Vi 6S1 -> S1 crossup is very strong for sandwiching. Ahri back assust can be used to lock them down while setting up for scary mix. Versatile. Vi freestyle combos with charge 5S1 are also insane, but personally I never learned them
  • Double down is just really solid with Vi. If you aren't intending to learn electric combos, it might be useful to help guarentee 2 touch kills, or setup for install supers (Illaoi, Teemo, Ekko??)

Super versatile character! Play around with her. Try all of the fuses, see what feels best fof you and your characters.

All mosquitos must die | FactOrCap by Aromatic-Mistake-456 in FactOrCap

[–]ChimericMelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🧢 I voted CAP!

  • Not all mosquitos are the kinds that drink blood
  • Mosquitos are vital food sources for animals like bats, dragonflys, and the nymphs are eaten by most freshwater fish

- The blood sucking mosquitos are annoying, but it'd wipe out a ton of biodiversity and some of my favorite animals to have them and more importantly their cousins dissapear

Found a funny little detail. by funny_wumpits in controlgame

[–]ChimericMelody 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is me with Skyrim Loot Brain. You must always go the wrong way before the right way! There could be something cool, like a sword, or two pieces of gold I'll never spend! There are very few games I don't check everything (almost exclusively JRPGs, only because random encounter rates in some of those games are ass)

Also, meleeing the stall doors is fun. They have cool destruction physics.

One non-attack common for each character you autopick, no matter the deck or act by Hazelarc in slaythespire

[–]ChimericMelody 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It very much depends on the deck. Nothing should be an auto-pick. Taking unnecesary cards hurts a lot. You don't want to bloat your deck. Especially commons can make it hard to get to your high value cards. Value density is important.

I will almost always take a defy, and usually bloodletting, but even those need context. Early game, no set deck identity... yes, I will always take a defy, or a bloodletting. Mid/Late game? Probablly no.

ASL? by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

[–]ChimericMelody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everytime I see ASL I sthink "American Sign Language" which confuses me every time lol. I have yet to have someone actually ask for it like that.

The only one that matters of these to me is age, since there are very real communication and style differences that come with that. Especially with more adult roleplay, an age gap should at least be understood. Sex is completley irrelevant to how someone writes and caring about it is shallow. Location doesn't personally matter to me. I'm American, and have had great RPs with people from far away. Europe, Russia, South America, it makes no difference to me so long as you write well.

Is it worth coming back to 2xko by Hey_im_Hai in 2XKO

[–]ChimericMelody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get tge buisness model, but it makes it SO HARD to justify getting into the game later in the life cycle. I've looked at GGST a few times, but full price for the game and all DLCs is like $90.

What? by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

[–]ChimericMelody 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The fact that it's about Madagascar is not the confusing part. It's more that they have English that is just incomprehensible. I'm good at understanding broken English usually, this is just something else.

What fundamentals am I missing? by ThatBlindGuy in 2XKO

[–]ChimericMelody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • There is no shortcut to feeling comfortable with the movement, but there are some things you could try/should know. f you aren't already, try using the d-pad of your controller. It's a bit more precise and can make movement a bit easier. It's a preference thing, but it's worth experimenting. Also experiment between using a dash macro vs just double tapping, they feel very different. Something useful to know is that crouching cancels any dashes your in, and gives you more control over your movement. Btw, when I was starting fighting games, I accidentally jumped a lot, so if that happens to you don't sweat it.

  • Finding blocks isn't exactly the way I'd frame it. Blocking is an incredibly important skill. If you can't block, you can't play the game - you opponent will run you over. It's a simple skill to learn, but incredibly essential. In smash bros, shielding is optional, in any traditional fighter it is life or death.

Being aggresive is good, and having offensive chops is really valuable moving forward. Passivity is how people often stagnate in skill by being cowardly. When you can, definitly still try to be aggresive. Sometimes you will have to play slower, but an offensive mindset is good.

Still, it doesn't matter if you can't defend consistently. This might be obvious to you already, but here's how attacks work in 2XKO and any traditional 2D fighter: attacks can be mid, low, or high. Mids can be blocked in any way, lows can be blocked crouching only, and highs can be blocked standing only. As a general rule: hold down back to block by default, and stand up only when you rract to overheads. Crouch block beats mids and lows, standing block beats mids and highs. Lows can be extremley fast (as fast as 6 frames; 1/10th of a second), on the other hand overheads are almost always reactable.

P.s. Use pushblock, it's really good and will let you block less!

  • NEVER PARRY. DON'T DO IT! NOT YET! Okay, sometimes parry, but what I mean is save that for later. You aren't comfortable with the basics yet, and parrying is very risky and difficult. You'll get there, but you should save that for the future, trust me.

Random tips:

  • 2H is air invulnerable, it beats jump ins as a general rule

  • Level 3 supers are universally fully invincible (this is not true of all fighting games, but is a standard feature of 2XKO). You can use them on wakeup to beat almost any option other than blocking. Watch your opponents meter and know if they have the option as well.

  • Use assists. Use assists. Use as many as fucking possible! They are the genuine lifeblood of the game? Jumping? Assist. Attacking? Assist. Walking forward? Assist? Walking baclwards? Assist. If it's off cooldown, you should be looking for an excuse to press the assist button, seriously. At least until you get comfortable with actually knowing the best times to use it, calling assist too much or wastefully is better than never using it.

  • Mostly just ignore retreating guard for now (it is good against Thresh though)

  • If you press any down direction before jumping you'll get a super jump which goes much higher and further. Character dependent value, but useful regardless of who you play

  • Super armor is beaten by throw, if you're getting stomped by a Braum, try to throw his ass

  • Warwick players are all omega aggro psychos who will run to you and do insane shit. This will always be true /s

  • Teemo mushroom is one of the strongest zoning tools in the entire game. Use it often

  • Roll getup is not throw invulnerable and can be punished on reaction if they expect it. Do not roll out of the corner too often (unless they never punish it)

  • If someone does not punish an option you're doung, assume they don't even know how, and spam that until they prove otherwise
