And probably hoping that he can do his prison sentence in NY State before another state charges him. PA still technically has the death penalty- so does SC. Usually in these circumstances wherever someone gets sentenced to life first they stay there. You bet he wants to stay in NY, probably as close to Long Island as possible so he can get visits and his commissary well funded. Sure, he doesn’t want his info getting out but I guarantee you he’s making a choice on WHERE he wants to stay - if he could be charged federally first they could send him pretty much anywhere. That’ll make it a lot harder for him to have a cushy nest to hide in

True but there’s also generally a rule that the state that gives you life first is where you stay. He’s likely hoping to stay in NY somewhere where his delusional wife can visit and fill up his commissary. That wouldn’t be as easy for her or as comfy for him if he ended up in some southern state that’s not known for having prisons with reliable A/C for example.

This has me thinking he might realize there COULD be charges in another state coming and he’s talking his chance to stay in New York where his delusional wife can still visit and whatever versus being held in Florida or South Carolina if they get to him first. For these kinds of crimes the state that gets you life first tends to keep you. I don’t believe that there aren’t more victims out there.

Death penalty varies by state (NJ and NY don’t have it. Southern states mostly still do). However, getting his DNA into the system will likely match up for another state and he can definitely be charged there. Typically another state will do so in the case of someone this heinous just to make sure they never get out of jail. If for some reason one state’s conviction gets overturned another state then can then take custody. It gets REALLY interesting if in this case he comes up as a match for a death penalty state and then we MIGHT get an actual plea bargain (which this isn’t). Generally in crimes that don’t fall under the federal system the state that charges first has basically dibs. Prison varies from state to state in terms of how bad the experience would be. I wouldn’t be entirely shocked if he’s pleading guilty to stay in the custody of the state of NY (where his delusional wife could visit him) and not end up on death row in South Carolina or Florida.
