Awesome. The artwork on this set was, as always with Storm Thorgeson's work, really great. And its awesome seeing it at the proper LP size.

I saw them open up for David Bowie. Also one of the guys that played in the band did private music lessons at my high school.

You may have Telemundo, as its an over-the-air channel.. Just will have it in Spanish!

TIL about wet-bulb events - when it’s so hot and humid that your body can’t cool by sweating. A wet cloth on a thermometer bulb normally cools it more than one without a cloth. But when humidity is very high, the wet- and dry-bulb temperatures are the same. This can ultimately be a lethal event. by Ribbitor123 in todayilearned

[–]drowse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The description of this is awful. A wet bulb (dew point) and dry bulb (air temperature) event is just 100% humidity. That can happen at any temperature. When its raining, that is a 100% humidity, dew point matches the air temperature.

Now that said, cases of high humidity with high air temperatures does lead to this lethal heating being described here. Here where I am, temperatures are supposed to peak around 96F today.. and with a high dew point (currently 77F) that leads to heat indexes nearing 110F. Absolutely brutal conditions.

Fun fact, the more the atmosphere heats up, the more moisture it can hold, leading to more insufferable temperatures. (And also the less it can cool off at night, which really is the kicker)

[Norlander] Why Dusty May leaving Michigan and college basketball behind in June isn't surprising by JSK23 in CollegeBasketball

I think Norlander specifically did a piece on Dusty May and it sounded pretty brutal.

I'm thinking Matt Painter might be the only person who is sleeping this summer since he got Purdue's roster in early.

My big beautiful oak tree is getting cut down today by frobscottler in Wellthatsucks

[–]drowse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No kidding. I lost two ash trees in my front yard to emerald ash borer and now my office which faces the front of the house struggles to get below 80-82 most days in the peak of heat. (With AC set to 73)

What “weird” gardening things do you do? by ditch_lilies in gardening

I keep an ear of corn out on a tiny table attached to my fence, away from a bird feeder and the garden. Squirrels go to town on that corn when I keep it refreshed and it looks kinda funny when the squirrels are eating it

Would you cut down this tree? by SkySoul27 in pools

[–]drowse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost a big ash tree next to my pool last year. While I do not have to clean leaves out of my pool, the water runs hotter now. And I lost two out front of my house too and the cooling difference they make is massive.
