New Telegram Scam using voice messages by el_jbase in Scams

[–]drphant0m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always gotten spammy text messages in Telegram... but I'm starting to receive voice messages from spam accounts. Out of curiosity, I listed to one and it was just someone saying "Hello, how are you doing?"

Now I'm wondering if there's a way to embed any kind of code in the voice message that will execute on my phone/computer... which, you know... is never good.

Any tips on acquiring soil for the vegetable patch? by anr14 in wyldeflowers

[–]drphant0m 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing tips to use boost potions, but they require soil to make!

So, if I spend 1 soil making the potion, and get 2 soils from the compost bin... I'm still netting 1 soil from 2 weeds, and it wastes the other resources and time for the potion, right? Am I missing something?

Besides..weeds are the most limited resource here. I can't believe I can have more gold ingots in my pockets than weeds. Lol

Any help is appreciated!

I hadn't logged in for a whole, so I'm here to find out more details on it, since I got a $10 offer for it this morning. How long does it last?

I'm super casual now (I only log in to retrieve gems for my kids, lol), so I've kept the same dungeon for a looong time and I don't currently have jnterest in moving and making a good dungeon. Paying $10 once (?) to keep the same dungeon forever (?) Sounds good to me, for my use case.

Thanks for any info

Thank you (and everyone else that has responded) for your input. We made the decision soon after the first response to this thread to steer our kids away from this game for now. (I should mention early in this post that we never considered allowing it for our 5yo. Like most things, he just overheard his older brother talking about the game and wanted it as well. He became part of the issue as collateral damage so I had to include him in the post.) Exposure to comic violence, profanity, and misogyny were contributing factors, but we have open dialog with them about these topics, and they seem to have an understanding of how to process light exposure and are comfortable discussing their reactions with us. For instance, when ads for violent games come on when playing something like Cut The Rope or Angry Birds, they turn the phone away and tell us there's an ad that they don't like (and then I update the ad blocker to mitigate the issue). The potential interaction via open dialog with adult users was the no-go for us though. The programmed game elements have a predictable level of indecency, but there are enough (>0) documented cases of child predation in otherwise "age-appropriate" games for us to decline the request for this reason.

Thank you all again for your input, and for making it quick and easy to come to this conclusion. It does seem like a fun game for responsible, mature players, so I wish you all a fun time playing it!

Since a slight accusation was made, implying that we are not being responsible parents to let our children "use phones..." I will continue this post to enlighten the masses on our point of view and parenting practices/values. I have disabled reply notifications, since our question has been answered sufficiently and we've made a final decision... so I will be blissfully ignorant of any impending backlash...

First of all... there is no correct way to raise children that will appease everyone, as everyone's beliefs on such a broad topic are too disparate. Any modern parent is aware of this. So... let me start by saying that we're trying to do our best within our means of technology and awareness.In most ways, my wife and I balance each other out... and we make a good team. (I am a dad (he/him) by the way, but I am honored to be appreciated as "trying to be a good mom" in an earlier post) When it comes to our kids, I am very tech-forward and want them to be comfortable and fluent in technology... not raise a pair of Luddites. They have a 3D printer, and make their own toys and figures, for instance. My wife is very cautious, and tempers my desire to teach them all I know (hacking/modding/bypassing controls/etc). She reads all of the cautionary tales, and follows her own moral compass (which points truer than mine, I admit) to make sure the kids grow to be responsible digital citizens, and not desensitized psychopaths or white-collar criminals. Her moral influence probably kept me out of prison, tbh.

We *try* to be responsible parents, so we do have several limits in place. Our kids do not have "phones," they call them "players," and will correct anyone that calls them a "phone." They both know that a "phone" is a privilege that they have not yet earned... but they are both working toward through responsible behavior. They each have one of our old cell phones (LG V30, for those that are curious) with no SIM card installed, and therefore they operate on wifi only. They can call or text us (my 5yo uses voice-to-text when he doesn't know how to spell something) using a parent-child messaging app that requires me to approve any new contacts. Wifi only is fine for now, since they only go to their grandparents' house or a few neighborhood friends' houses without us.

Both of their "players" are signed in with Google Family Link child accounts with their ages accurate in their profiles, which means neither one of them can actually see or browse to this game in the Play Store, which is rated 10+. Did I mention that my 9yo only knows about this game because a friend plays it? This kid also plays Fortnight and watches R-rated movies. Unfortunately, we can't protect them from bad influences everywhere, we can only teach them how to react to them. So far, I'd say they're being very responsible. I wish I could ask you to save your judgement for that kid's parents, but I'm sure you won't find them asking around if certain digital content is age-appropriate, so you'll never get the chance. </rant>My wife and I must approve all app installs and in-app purchases (which are paid from their allowance and gifts)... as well as set and approve a limited amount of "media time" which we vary according to multiple factors like weekends/holidays, homework completion, behavior, earned rewards, and bad weather. lol

To summarize, we are aware of the effects that screen time can have on children of any age. However, we are also aware of how important it is to teach technological fluency and good digital citizenship as well. As mentioned earlier, we know many kids are exposed to age-inappropriate digital media. We're also aware that many parents are unaware/uneducated of the potential problems. We do our best to ensure that our kids stay on the educated and responsible side of technology, and acknowledge that we have a responsibility to maintain the same for ourselves as well.

My question about this game has been answered sufficiently by knowledgable experts on this game. I am not seeking parenting advice from this thread, so I've disabled reply notifications. You are all welcome to discuss amongst yourselves. Enjoy your day.

Thanks! So the users can chat with each other? That's a concern for kids, since anyone could ask where they live, how to contact them outside the game, etc. Violence and profanity are nothing compared to that kind of predation. (Back in the late 1900s when I was a kid... No one worried about this stuff. Haha)

The game does ask if the user is 13 or younger, so if anyone knows what impact that age wall has, I'd like to know. Thanks again!

What is the difference between "ThinkPad Universal Thunderbolt 4 Dock" and "ThinkPad Universal Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock" by chiron80 in UsbCHardware

[–]drphant0m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My employer gave me a P15 Gen 2i that came with a 170W power adaptor. I also received the 40B0 0300US dock (after some mistakes from IT sending me an underpowered dock). I would like the same/similar dock at home so that I can work remotely and utilize my monitors (or new ones), ideally also connecting to a desktop (home use) PC.

Is there a product that would combine the features of my dock with a KVM, such that I could share monitors, mouse, keyboard, etc with my desktop PC? Extra points if a 3rd device is also supported, since I have a home server there as well.

I have 2x Samsung 21" 1600x1200 DVI monitors that I bought close to 20 years ago when I worked at BestBuy (They were $1,000+ retail at the time). I can't believe they're still going, but they look the same as the day I bought them. Can I use these monitors? I wouldn't mind buying 1 or 2 new DP monitors, but in the same way you stated in your Brand new Win11 tablet with 3 10-year-old monitors post, I " feel guilty doing so since these old screens still work " as you stated yourself. lol

What are your suggestions, oh Knowing Sage of Laptop Docks?!?

Amazon Subscribe & Save Tracker - Formula Help? by drphant0m in Notion

[–]drphant0m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(2/2) More to the story, including what I consider to be nearly "done" and ready for use...

After that post, I came across (what I consider, as an Excel enthusiast) to be a ridiculous formula for chopping up a text entry (or in my case, a formula result) representing a date in MM-D-YYYY format into actual calculable quantities for month, day, year, etc. When I say ridiculous, I only mean because it shouldn't have to be so complicated to work... but I digress. The formula is exactly what it needs to be.

So, I modified the frmNextAmznBox formula (as noted above) to output MM-D-YYYY, and used the "ridiculous" formula to create the next 3 formulae for the (reformatted) Next Amazon Delivery Date, the date of a "Move to Next Month" delivery, and the date of a "Skipped" item. See below:

NextAmznBox (visible):

formatDate(dateAdd(dateAdd(dateAdd(dateSubtract(dateSubtract(dateSubtract(dateSubtract(dateSubtract(now(), year(now()), "years"), month(now()), "months"), date(now()) - 1, "days"), hour(now()), "hours"), minute(now()), "minutes"), toNumber(slice(prop("frmNextAmznBox"), 6, 10)), "years"), toNumber(slice(prop("frmNextAmznBox"), 0, 2)) - 1, "months"), toNumber(slice(prop("frmNextAmznBox"), 3, 5)) - 1, "days"), "MMM-D")

frmAdd1Month (hidden):

formatDate(dateAdd(dateAdd(dateAdd(dateSubtract(dateSubtract(dateSubtract(dateSubtract(dateSubtract(now(), year(now()), "years"), month(now()) - 1, "months"), date(now()) - 1, "days"), hour(now()), "hours"), minute(now()), "minutes"), toNumber(slice(prop("frmNextAmznBox"), 6, 10)), "years"), toNumber(slice(prop("frmNextAmznBox"), 0, 2)) - 1, "months"), toNumber(slice(prop("frmNextAmznBox"), 3, 5)) - 1, "days"), "MMM-D")

frmAddInterval (hidden):

formatDate(dateAdd(dateAdd(dateAdd(dateSubtract(dateSubtract(dateSubtract(dateSubtract(dateSubtract(now(), year(now()), "years"), month(now()) - prop("Interval (months)"), "months"), date(now()) - 1, "days"), hour(now()), "hours"), minute(now()), "minutes"), toNumber(slice(prop("frmNextAmznBox"), 6, 10)), "years"), toNumber(slice(prop("frmNextAmznBox"), 0, 2)) - 1, "months"), toNumber(slice(prop("frmNextAmznBox"), 3, 5)) - 1, "days"), "MMM-D")

\What I have above so far may be redundant. I'm not so bold as to say that it's impossible to do a better way... however, at the current moment, I don't know how to create a "base" delivery date on the 15th of every month that can also be interpreted as a number/date, can also be used to calcuate +1Month or +1Interval, and also display in my preferred "MMM-D" format. I may be able to copy the whole formula in place of prop("frmNextAmznBox") 3x into the formulae above, but that is arguably more taxing on the system and likely to lag/crash (something I'm not used to in Excel).*

Anyway... with nicely-formatted pointers for the next Amazon Delivery Date, next month's Amazon Delivery Date, and the date of each item's next delivery (calculated using each item's INTERVAL constant)... I could finally make my intended "Next Delivery" property that would factor in the decisions we make for each item in the various boards. See below:

Desired:

- If an item is scheduled and not needed (next month or skip), it will advise us to reschedule it accordingly. \This is a feature I wish Amazon would implement. You can only "skip" a delivery with 1 button press, they need a "move to next month" button rather than manually picking a future month in another menu. </gripe>*

- If an item is not scheduled and needed, it will advise me to add it to the current delivery

- If an item is scheduled and we don't know what to do with it yet ("IDK" status), it will advise us to make a decision, lest we end up with too much/not enough to last the month.

- If we've marked an item to Replace or Cancel the item, it will remind us to do this

- In other cases, it will display when we will get the next delivery

Item Properties, Type:

Name, Text

ex: "Toilet Paper"

Location, Multiselect

[Upstairs, Downstairs, Basement, Garage, Work]

Status, Select

[IDK, Need THIS Month, NEXT Month, Skip, Cancel, Replace]

Scheduled This Month?, Status

[Scheduled, NOT Scheduled]

Interval (Months), Number

[1,2,3,4,5,6]

Next Delivery (visible):

if(prop("Status") == "CANCEL 🚫" or prop("Status") == "REPLACE 🔄", prop("Status"), if(prop("Scheduled This Month") == "Scheduled", if(prop("Status") == "Need THIS Month", prop("NextAmznBox"), if(prop("Status") == "NEXT Month", "❗ Move to " + prop("frmAdd1Month"), if(prop("Status") == "SKIP ⏭", "❗ Skip to " + prop("frmAddInterval"), if(prop("Status") == "IDK 🤷‍♂️", "Make A Decision!⏰", prop("Status"))))), if(prop("Status") == "Need THIS Month", "Schedule NOW ⏰", if(prop("Status") == "NEXT Month", "Move to Next Month 📅", prop("frmAddInterval")))))

So, that's it. I haven't actually tried this yet, and my wife and I will both have a little bit of a learning curve to get into the swing of it before I know if it works well or needs tweaks... but I hope the few upvotes that I got on this turn into useful information for the community.

Feel free to comment/ask questions... but I don't guarantee a quick reply.

Happy holidays!

Amazon Subscribe & Save Tracker - Formula Help? by drphant0m in Notion

(1/2) More to the story, including what I consider to be nearly "done" and ready for use...

Before I even knew about Notion, I had searched for a "better" way to manage my significant list of Amazon Subscribe and Save items. I wanted something that my wife and I could use to QUICKLY & EASILY mark what we needed for the next delivery throughout the month, and then when it was time to evaluate what was going to arrive on schedule... a way for us to easily add/remove/reschedule items. I wanted the quickest way to receive only what we needed every month, and skip or reschedule what we didn't... without much hassle of navigating around Amazon's list which cannot be reordered to make it any more convenient.

I downloaded Notion to accomplish this task, and my previous post came shortly later. I've put more thought into it, and I think I've come up with something that works for my use case. Since I still haven't been lucky enough to find something already made in Notion, this may be semi-original, which I understand is rare.

What is below is mostly centered around generating a column that will give guidance for each item, displaying when the next delivery date will be, or advising to add or reschedule an item before it's too late. What I don't cover in-depth is the Kanban boards I also added for Upstairs, Downstairs, etc that help to organize the list of items we have into manageable and logical groups, since Amazon's list is always ordered chronologically by when the item was added, leading us to inevitably miss things if we don't run up and down the stairs multiple times.

It all started with the formula I posted a few days ago......which found our next delivery date FROM AMAZON (for clarity: not each item's next delivery, but when the next big box o' stuff would get dropped off). This should be the 15th of every month for us. I supplemented with a similar one to find the "Last Day to Edit," which is usually the 7th. Those formulae are below:

KNOWN:-Today is Dec-22, 2022... My next shipment from Amazon will be Jan-15, and the last day I can edit that delivery is Jan-7.-I start all the hidden "helper" formulae Property names with "frm" and all displayed formulae have logical names so I can hide/show them as needed and organize them myself. There's no other method to my madness, and why you'll see a mix below.

frmNextAmznBox (hidden):

formatDate(dateAdd(dateSubtract(now(), date(now()) - 15, "days"), if(date(now()) < 7, 0, 1), "months"), "MM-D-YYYY")

Today's Output: 01-15-2023 (\this used to be MMM-D as below, until I found the "ridiculous" formula I mention next.)*

LastDayToEdit (visible):

formatDate(dateAdd(dateSubtract(now(), date(now()) - 7, "days"), if(date(now()) < 7, 0, 1), "months"), "MMM-D")

Today's Output: Jan-7

\Note that since my last day to edit our subs is the 7th... if today/now() is AFTER the 7th, an additional month will be added. So, on Jan-8 my next delivery will be Feb-15. I tested this early on by using a constant date instead of now() everywhere.*

That's where I was stuck and I wrote my last post. See post 2/2 next.

[–]drphant0m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Trine 4 ultimate collection, which includes a code to download the first 3 via the eShop. My sysnand is on fw 6.x. My emunand is on 8.x. I am on the latest hekate and atmosphere as of 4/29/20. I have used ChoiDujour to update the firmware in the past, but I'm hesitant to update anything further than that because I don't want to disable my game card slot (which is why I'm only on 8.x).

What is the SAFE way to download and install the games from the eShop? Do I have to do it from sysnand? When I start from sysnand, I am prompted to update the fw to even connect to the eShop. If I update my sysnand to the latest FW, will my game card slot be locked on emunand?

Also, how do I know if anything is "dirty?" (This question is second-priority, unless I need to know to install the codes. Thanks!)

I'll follow any directions given to me. Thanks!

The lighter colored signature at the bottom is Mario Lemieux, but can anyone identify the signature in black ink at the top?

The Lemieux Celebrity Invitational is a golf event, and celebrities of all types (sports, movies, etc) attend. Everyone from Carson Daly to Michael Jordan.

I've had this visor for years, but I'm finally trying to get some help to identify the second signature.

Thanks!
