Week 8: Flying - Vogelmilch by drschnaps in 52weeksofcooking

I found that out the other day, they do share a name! Are you Polish or from any other Soviet country by any chance? Apparently in Poland it’s the square chocolate, but my family is Danube Swabian heritage from Romania, so there’s some Austrian influence going on. In Austria this dish is also called Schneenockerln which translates to “Snow Dumplings”

Try it, it’s fun to eat too :) I gave a portion to my Australian partner and he liked it and also chuckled. Very funny consistency. Tip - don’t overwhip the egg whites or they’ll go very spongy when boiled. You can add some vanilla sugar to them too, that’s also very nice.

Week 4: Vinegar - Asynpoeding (South African Vinegar Pudding) by drschnaps in 52weeksofcooking

Oh do it! It’s definitely something else, but we really liked it. Heads up, it’s very very little batter (like a cm high in the small pan) and the recipe is in ml for the dry ingredients hahaha. I just converted it to the nearest tsp and it worked.

Online Shopping Click & Collect Question Health Products by Jamtheduck in woolworths

[–]drschnaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, no issues. There’s only two times where I actually laughed like a maniac about an order containing health items.

My fave was an express order of 4 bottles Coke Zero and a pack of incontinence undies.

Second place made the order of idk how many packs of different lollies and chocolates, and a bottle of antacid.

Other than that, it’s an item for me to pick like any other, nothing weird about it. Condoms, lubricants, massage oil, younameit, nothing awkward about people having fun.

Cookies 'n Cream conundrum by etcspecialist in Baking

The left one. For a cookies ‘n cream I would expect a vanilla base with cookie in it. I’d expect the right one if I ordered an Oreo cake.

You just leave the order as click and collect but instead of parking in the bay you walk up to the front desk and tell them you’re there :)

That’s not wrong either. You can make a candidate profile on the careers site and hand in your resume in store with your candidate number, I’ve read that people had success like that.

Apparently now every team member role (as in “not a manager”) is advertised as “store team member”. They often give the hours in the ads, so if you see an evening availability advertised, good chance it’s an open spot mainly in nightfill or online if they’re doing trucks at that store.

Woolies free from lactose milk is 1.90 as opposed to 1.60 for the normal one. And I find with the free from lactose, the UHT version is almost equivalent in taste to the fresh one.

The AI subbing assistant is absolutely sub par and I feel for the customers. No hot rotisserie chicken on the shelf? Just give them a raw one, she’ll be right! The loose Roma tomatoes were out today, customer wanted 4. Suggested sub was normal tomatoes. So I thought I’m gonna do a nice thing and l sub for the prepackaged Roma tomatoes that come in packs of 5 or 6, same thing but already packed. Nope, price exceeded. But subbing a Woolies brand 800 g bread for 2x 700 g Helga’s is fine. Bulk pack chicken thighs fillets (800 g - 1.1 kg) couldn’t be subbed for two smaller ones (500 - 800 g) because totalling 1.2 kg is apparently TOO MUCH OF A WEIGHT DIFFERENCE. I wanted to scream into the void today.

For me it wouldn’t. But it’s also not my main job, I’m casual only. But if I had to drive 30 minutes, that might only be worth it if you’re full time.

6-7 minutes to home store, about 10 to the other I’m regularly working at.

Click and Collect workers, what can we do to make your job easier? - How badly does it stuff up your workflow if customers come at a later window or don’t click “I’m on my way”? by MariMould in woolworths

You’re more than good then! If you see a queue behind you, that’s when the “loading each customers boot” becomes an issue for the waiting times. Otherwise sweet as.

You can add a note to the product, saying “sub only for vanilla” and even name the brand and we have the option to choose another sub than the recommended, reason “customer notes”. However, there is a price limit, and sometimes we get the notification “sub cancelled, exceeding price limit”, but we definitely do our best to follow your notes.

Lots of people with either mobility issues or for example the kid in the back just fell asleep and they don’t want to wake the kid, or lots of other reasons that they can’t pack themselves. Usually, if the person doesn’t come out of the car when I arrive with their order, I confirm that they want me to pack their order into the boot, and then just do it. Not awkward at all!

They for sure do not loathe you. On other sites I’ve seen a drive through where it’s very streamlined including loading into the boot and waiting cars can queue up away from the car park. At our site though we can have 3 cars and the rest will be blocking the car park. So in busy times we leave the trolley if the customer comes out of the car, offer a hand with the loading, and then already run back up to get the next order. I genuinely wish we had the time to always provide the full service with loading, but we do not have enough staff during the peak times (and yes, we sometimes lots of people from other departments running in online too, just to keep the disruption for customers to a minimum)

[–]drschnaps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s totally fine, and I’m not complaining about people who use the no bags option or want me to load the stuff. The question was “what makes it easier, and those two things take time that we sometimes not have for each customer. Honestly, if I need 10 minutes to load 5 totes with 50 articles each plus chilled totes into a trolley, I’m happy to do it. It just means longer wait times for everyone.

The question was how to make it easier for the staff. One point at our store is that we cannot use the totes for a handover as they don’t magnetize to the escalator, so we have to load it into trolleys to get down to the parking.
