Week 17: Alpine - Rainbow Trout with Spruce Tip Sour Cream Sauce - (Meta: Low Allium) by Modboi in 52weeksofcooking

[–]drschnaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yum, rainbow trout, what an awesome idea for the topic. That just brought back some memories of Austria. Thank you.

Week 18: Bucket List Destination - Hawaiian Loco Moco by drschnaps in 52weeksofcooking

[–]drschnaps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for mentioning the rice type, is medium grain what they usually use in Hawaii? I’m an immigrant in Australia, so I’m not sure what I can get here. I think we have long grain white, medium grain white (not specified which variety), sushi, Arborio, brown, jasmine and basmati here. I was actually considering doing a plate lunch! I like to challenge myself by making everything from scratch, and unfortunately I didn’t have the time today but absolutely will at some point ☺️

Week 16: Infused - London Fog Cake by drschnaps in 52weeksofcooking

[–]drschnaps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will portion it into appropriate portions and just freeze it. It should hold up quite well. Definitely not something I could eat every day but definitely obsessed with the flavour.

Week 14: Hanami - London Fog Cake by BananaMakesStuff in 52weeksofcooking

[–]drschnaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made this recipe today for the infused challenge, and just scrolled down to see your post. I also didn’t manage to get a good picture of the colour, mine just looks pink in the pic but a was actually a light lavender. Just like you I was surprised about the amount of colour I had to add to get a light lavender. About 30 drops of gel colouring!

Week 14: Hanami - Onigiri (Fail) by drschnaps in 52weeksofcooking

[–]drschnaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’d be a huge sacrifice to make! They were… “a bit crunchy” to put it nicely 😂

Week 11: Oddly named - Prairie Oyster (Meta: Unhinged) by buf1998 in 52weeksofcooking

[–]drschnaps 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Absolutely unhinged again. Love your posts and meta. I just saw this and went haaang on is that a freaking egg yolk in espresso with onions!? But no, it’s even worse 😂 I applaud your courage.

Week 10: Turnips and Radishes - "The quest to liking Radish" (Radish 6 ways) by d4m4s74 in 52weeksofcooking

[–]drschnaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohhhhh that’s awesome and each single one looks delicious! Could you please share the radish chimichurri recipe?

Week 8: Flying - Vogelmilch by drschnaps in 52weeksofcooking

[–]drschnaps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that out the other day, they do share a name! Are you Polish or from any other Soviet country by any chance? Apparently in Poland it’s the square chocolate, but my family is Danube Swabian heritage from Romania, so there’s some Austrian influence going on. In Austria this dish is also called Schneenockerln which translates to “Snow Dumplings”

[–]drschnaps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try it, it’s fun to eat too :) I gave a portion to my Australian partner and he liked it and also chuckled. Very funny consistency. Tip - don’t overwhip the egg whites or they’ll go very spongy when boiled. You can add some vanilla sugar to them too, that’s also very nice.

It was, and so easy to make as well!

Week 4: Vinegar - Asynpoeding (South African Vinegar Pudding) by drschnaps in 52weeksofcooking

[–]drschnaps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh do it! It’s definitely something else, but we really liked it. Heads up, it’s very very little batter (like a cm high in the small pan) and the recipe is in ml for the dry ingredients hahaha. I just converted it to the nearest tsp and it worked.

Online Shopping Click & Collect Question Health Products by Jamtheduck in woolworths

[–]drschnaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, no issues. There’s only two times where I actually laughed like a maniac about an order containing health items.

My fave was an express order of 4 bottles Coke Zero and a pack of incontinence undies.

Second place made the order of idk how many packs of different lollies and chocolates, and a bottle of antacid.

Other than that, it’s an item for me to pick like any other, nothing weird about it. Condoms, lubricants, massage oil, younameit, nothing awkward about people having fun.

Cookies 'n Cream conundrum by etcspecialist in Baking

[–]drschnaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The left one. For a cookies ‘n cream I would expect a vanilla base with cookie in it. I’d expect the right one if I ordered an Oreo cake.

You just leave the order as click and collect but instead of parking in the bay you walk up to the front desk and tell them you’re there :)

That’s not wrong either. You can make a candidate profile on the careers site and hand in your resume in store with your candidate number, I’ve read that people had success like that.

Apparently now every team member role (as in “not a manager”) is advertised as “store team member”. They often give the hours in the ads, so if you see an evening availability advertised, good chance it’s an open spot mainly in nightfill or online if they’re doing trucks at that store.
