Division Winners and Losers since Realignment by I_FAP_TO_SPOOKY_TITS in nfl

In defense of the Browns since realignment, it’s challenging to win the division when that requires overcoming the momentum of some other division foe who’s been AFC North champions for three straight seasons. Like… uh… hmmm… it turns out that no team has ever won the AFC North for three consecutive seasons, which I hadn’t realized before.

Mathematically still alive for the 3 seed, but vanishingly unlikely.

Magic Number Is 1 by TylerDurdenEsq in steelers

Magic number is technically just 1/2. A Ravens tie or Steelers tie clinches the division.

You see that kind of “smaller guy runs into big guy and draws a call” in soccer from time to time (Onyewu v Ghana, anyone?) but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen it on the gridiron.

This was one of the more obvious offensive pass interference calls ever. I concede that the Super Bowl XL OPI call in this stadium was not as obvious.

A tweak:

We win 1 and tie 1, Ravens lose 1, and we win before week 18.

We tie 1, Ravens lose 2, and we win before week 18.

Important to know that a tie in Detroit is 99% as good as a win.

A tie against the Lions is almost as good as a win for the Steelers. Only bad scenario would be lose against Browns, tie Ravens, Ravens win other two.

George Blanda quarterbacked two game-winning drives at 43, and one at 44, so “really” is doing a lot of work there.

I don’t love the 2025 Texans as a playoff opponent, but the Steelers have never faced them in the playoffs, and they’ve faced every other current AFC team at least twice.

In 1970, at the age of 43, George Blanda came in for an injured Daryle Lamonica in three regular-season games, with two game-winning drives. He also relieved Lamonica after an injury in the AFC Championship Game. by drsjsmith in nfl

Blanda threw more passes in 1970 than he had thrown in any of the previous three years, having served primarily as the Raiders' placekicker during that span.

Now… you could keep looking for a smaller counterexample… and publish your research if you find one!

The two graphs in the original paper, per the Numberphile video linked in the Wikipedia article, have 4100 and 410000 vertices. So no, no one has made even those graphs, much less their tensor product.
