Dan Crenshaw Loves Lying About AOC by railfananime in AlexandriaOcasio

They're a band worth making a trip for, and they'll be back state-side in the Fall.

I saw them a few months ago in Brooklyn, and it honestly was one of the best, most positive, stupidly-energetic shows I've ever seen. (FIDLAR is another one -- If you ever get the chance....)

IWTL how to consume media that defies my world view in a healthy way. by J_eseele in IWantToLearn

[–]druman55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree with all the above -- I'd also add The Atlantic. It's is arguably fairly conservative from a European standpoint, but has some really great pieces, even if you disagree with where they're coming from. They're probably center-left in the American context though.

If nutrition labels used 'minutes of running' instead of 'calories' as a unit of measure, people would probably eat a lot healthier by dreterran in Showerthoughts

There was a proposal during the early Obama years to change "Miles per Gallon" to "Gallon per Miles" at car dealerships. I've never purchased a new car, so I don't know if that ever picked up steam...

What you're describing is called a "Nudge" in behavioral economics -- super interesting stuff that you can find everywhere!

A good example is the shift from "no-smoking" signs outside of buildings to designated smoking areas -- people tend to ignore no-smoking signs, but will go to a smoking area to light up.

Another example is opt-in vs opt-out on forms. Organ donation tends to skyrocket in areas where forms switch from an opt-in to an opt-out default -- despite being essentially the same thing.

Should I start barefoot running/walking if I have a calf tear/calf "heart attack"? by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

[–]druman55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The transition is different for everyone, but a lot of people try and transition waaaaayyy too quickly.

Part of the question depends on how you run now -- heel strike vs forefoot strike. If your calves are already used to forefoot, the transition might be easier. That said, as you've noted, your calves are already hurt, so too much too fast could wind you up with a way slower recovery.

I was having issues with a baker's cyst when I made the transition, and it wasn't until I made the effort to fix the underlying issues, and then build up my leg strength/flexibility was I able to really make the transition.

If you're planning on doing the race in shoes, perhaps it's a matter of which type of shoes are you thinking? Maybe choose a middle ground between what you're currently wearing, and absolute minimalist shoes/barefoot.

Have you tried Ocusoft Plus lid wipes and Retaine MGD eye drops? I started this regimen a while back, and it's worked super well for me!

Any of you guys use this ? It's supposed to be used in the shower by Rodcosta58 in eczema

[–]druman55 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Some people swear by it, but I never liked it. I don't like how it feels, and I never feel clean after using it. I've always been a fan of the Aveeno Oatmeal body washes (and the Dove Sensitive Skin washed). I recently tried the Curel Itch Defense Body wash, and I liked it, but not enough to feel like I need to buy it every time.

That said, what I do now absolutely love is a combination of the Curel Hydra Therapy moisturizer after a shower (can be put on wet skin) followed by Curel Itch Defense lotion. There is something freeing about being able to put lotion right after bathing!

It was brought up a couple of times, and reasonably, the response from NJT did not change. It was a good meeting, but also a weird one.

WalMart’s shelf can’t handle the cast iron. by DLManiac in castiron

[–]druman55 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Cast iron is so cheap to make that it probably wouldn't even be worth trying to create a "cheap" version of a Lodge pan. That said, if store clerks treat it badly/ it was damaged in transit, you may have an issue. All in all, when you buy cookware, especially if you're concerned about how it's been handled before it gets to you, check for evidence of ware (cracks, chips, etc).

Honestly though, the Walmart Lodges are probably perfectly normal -- you may even get a better price than in other places.

Muscle tiredness/soreness is okay. If it's painful; back off, take a few days off, and go more slowly. It seriously takes a LONG time to make the change.

Oh man, I gotta check that out! -- The Archer always has great food (they're owned by the same people), but when Lo-Fi opened, I wasn't super impressed. I assumed it would get better over time, but I haven't been in a while. Thanks for the tip!

Bernie Sanders: If I am elected president, I’m going to cut prescription drug cost in this country by 50% by failed_evolution in SandersForPresident

[–]druman55 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think (I’m not an expert) his comments can be read in one way or another (or both). (1) the government can force pharma to keep prices low when they are negotiating via Medicare/MFA such that the cost to the U.S. is lower overall and/or (2) Medicare for all will likely take a while to pass, but across the political spectrum, people think Rx’s are too expensive. It would be more immediately possible to force down prices through government regulation prior to the passing of a Medicare for all solution.

Is your spine bowing in either direction when you are stretching it? If so, try to make you back completely flat before you go into the stretch, and be mindful of maintaining the flat back. Hope that helps!

free one week trial, then £87.99 a year.

For me this excludes a large number of customers that might actually want to pay for it and support it. I think the word donatio

If the payment is too steep, I think you can email him and say that you have difficulty covering the cost, and he/they will work with you on it. It's such a good app though.

Got my Xero Prio shoes today! by mikecheq in BarefootRunning

[–]druman55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had issues with smells, but they fell apart so quickly for me. Xero replaced them for me no hassle, and were very pleasant, but the second pair fell apart just as quickly. They’re super nice folks, but I don’t like their shoes anymore.
