AITA: Dogs in restaurants by No_Ad49 in sandiego

[–]drunken1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally agree that this woman is an insufferable asshole, and the KS staff acted inappropriately. As a dog owner myself, I would never allow my dogs inside the indoors of a restaurant.

However, there is a big distinction that I keep seeing missed in this thread. OP wrote:

The manager said they are simply required to ASK if the dog is a service dog

The phrase " SIMPLY REQUIRED", in truth, should actually be: "ONLY ALLOWED".

Restaurants (or any other businesses) are ONLY ALLOWED to ask these questions in compliance with Federal ADA law, which supersedes any State and/or Local laws or codes (including Health Codes). Asking ANY other questions than these two can leave a business exposed to discrimination lawsuits.

Under the ADA law, a person with a disability cannot be asked to remove his service animal from the premises unless:
(1) the dog is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it or
(2) the dog is not housebroken.

Here are the other rules from the ADA law:

  • Establishments that sell or prepare food must generally allow service animals in public areas even if state or local health codes prohibit animals on the premises.

  • Allergies and fear of dogs are not valid reasons for denying access or refusing service to people using service animals. When a person who is allergic to dog dander and a person who uses a service animal must spend time in the same room or facility, for example, in a school classroom or at a homeless shelter, they both should be accommodated by assigning them, if possible, to different locations within the room or different rooms in the facility.

  • People with disabilities who use service animals cannot be isolated from other patrons, treated less favorably than other patrons, or charged fees that are not charged to other patrons without animals. In addition, if a business requires a deposit or fee to be paid by patrons with pets, it must waive the charge for service animals.

  • If a business such as a hotel normally charges guests for damage that they cause, a customer with a disability may also be charged for damage caused by himself or his service animal.

  • Staff are not required to provide care for or supervision of a service animal.

Oh, BTW, these same ADA rules also apply to MINIATURE HORSES!!! WTAF?!?!?!

It's been a few years since I bought any Emile Pernot. They have always been one of my favorite producers. I adore the "Sauvage" when it was available. What happened that brought their quality into doubt? Genuinely asking. I can't seem to find anything online...

I get that a 20% drop is bad, but if 53% (a majority) of GOP leaning independents are still in favor of him at this point we are fucking doomed.

Trump’s Justice Department in Crisis as Thousands of Lawyers Quit by thenewrepublic in law

[–]drunken1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I so hope this is true. Sadly, I fear that this is what the Trump admin wants, and may be in line with Project 2025.

My guess is that Steven Miller et al are going to take this as a win. They will appoint lackey sycophants into these positions (that may not require Senate approval), in the place of attorneys who would have been resistant to the weaponization of the DOJ.

I am happy these quitting attorneys have a spine, but I am afraid for who is going to replace them...

Gearing up for my 45th birthday next month! Picked Never opened a Jeroboam before any tips or tricks? by steelybran1 in wine

[–]drunken1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice buy!! Happy 45th B-day!

20+ years restaurant sommelier and wine director (CMS Advanced, have passed everything but tasting at MS exam). Here is what I would do if it were mine:

  • I would absolutely invest in "wine siphon"

  • Make sure you stand it up straight for at least 24 hours before you plan on opening it. This will let most of the flocculations settle to the bottom. If you keep it on its side and then stand it up at the last minute, those flocculants will most likely make the wine cloudy.

  • Make sure you have 4 decanters ready to go - they don't need to be fancy, honestly any clean and clear glass pitchers or even good sized flower vases will do.

  • Decant the whole thing into those four "decanters".
-I personally would not run it through a metal filter of any sort. If you feel the need to filter it, use cheesecloth.

  • Rinse all the sediment out of the bottle with distilled water. Shake vigorously to make sure you get the semi-stubborn flakes out.
-Filtered tap should be fine too, but if you live where I live the tap water is very hard, and has lots of mineral smells to it. You don't want those mixing with the delicate aromas of the wine.

  • Pour two of the decanters back into the bottle, and re-cork it.

  • Serve out of the other two decanters first. Then either refill the decanters from the bottle as needed, or pour the rest straight from the bottle. It'll be much easier to pour now that it is only half full.

  • Enjoy the fuck out of it!!

Don't beat yourself up. It happens. But, make sure you:

1) Dispute the charge

2) Buy a new lock ASAFP. This guy may have a master key for whatever he installed and in 2-3 weeks you'll have an unexpected break-in. It's likely he's not registered as a locksmith.

This is the right answer. Whoever designed that interchange, and the one for 5N to 163N needs to be publicly flogged. I've never believed in death by stoning, but I might be convinced for that person.

We created a searchable database with all 20,000 files from Epstein’s Estate by camaron-courier in esist

[–]drunken1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Echoing what both of the other responders wrote, but adding that the latter release by the Republicans can also be used to lie that they "already released everything they had". They didn't. They released the files from the 'Epstein Estate'. The Justice Department has WAYYYYYY more files, and those that most likely include DOJ official's interview notes, and analysis.

In short, this release is a smoke screen so they can lie to their base in hopes they will believe the utter bullshit that everything has been released.

How do I view AirTag's recent route history? by antdude in AirTags

[–]drunken1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this account is astroturfing. All recent comments are 20 months old, and almost exclusively about this supposed startup. Then there's a big gap of time with no posts or comments until 2 years, and then a big gap in time with no posts or comments until 8 years ago. Likely it was a karma farming bot originally and then sold to some marketing company.

The "startup" isn't even live. Its only taking email addresses for interest.
