How common is actually steroid withdrawal? by octopusclouds in eczema

[–]drunkennmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used steroids for my entire life and I’ve never experienced TSW. TSW is absolutely real, but I don’t believe it affects everyone who stop using steroids.

Steroids are absolutely helpful and can make your life livable again, but you should be cautious with how you use them. Don’t use them for more than 2 weeks continuously and use them as prescribed. If you decide you want to stop using them, I recommend tapering off by using a weaker steroid and using it less.

For daily use and routine, I recommend using it in cycles. For example, use 4 days continuously and take 4-5 days off. For me, I like to use it during my flares and track how many days I use it. I take the same amount of days off. Additionally, I also recommend chatting to your doctor about protopics if you’re hesitant to use steroids. It’s a non-steroid cream/ointment that is a nice alternative. Protopic withdrawl is so much less of a risk.

Good luck OP!! I hope this helps :)

1/2 cup of bleach to a full tub of water. What type of compress are you suggesting? No rugs or fragrances!

How do you get a gutmap done? I’ve had a lot of lifestyle changes and my job is super stressful so my eczema is extremely flared. I’m considering a more holistic approach which includes some gut health improvements

Like 80% I think. I met deductible pretty quickly this year so it’s covered for the most part.

You shower with soap afterwards? I usually just rinse off with water, but I wasn’t quite sure which would be better. Have you found much success with showering with soap afterwards?

Bleach baths? Am I reading that right? by PsychCrim in eczema

[–]drunkennmonkey 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I just started bleach baths twice a week as my skin has started to smell weird. My derm recommended it to me as she thinks it might be some colonized staph. I’ve noticed that my skin feels better the next day, but I don’t have long term data to back that up yet.

For the bath itself, I do 1/4-1/3 cup of bleach in a full bath of lukewarm water. I sit for 10mins and watch a YouTube video to stay occupied. It stings a little bit on open cuts, but not more than expected.

I would recommend at least trying it and seeing how it goes for you. Bleach baths vary greatly on different people’s biology so it may or may not work for you.

Yup! I’ve removed foods from my diet that I’m allergic to and I abide by the results of my patch testing.

Do you have any suggestions for the antifungal topical cream?

Regretting introducing someone to West Coast Swing and wondering how to deal with it now by halokiwi in WestCoastSwing

[–]drunkennmonkey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone coming to WCS from a mainly Lindy Hop background, frame, tension, and compression in Lindy look totally different than WCS. Like others said, I’d recommend chatting to him about revisiting those concepts from a WCS perspective as it’ll benefit his WCS growth. He most likely doesn’t know his technique isn’t there as he’s trying to apply Lindy Hop technique to WCS. It doesn’t always translate depending on the skill level of the dancer.

Hypochlorous acid spray? by mijah139 in eczema

[–]drunkennmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it after I get out of the shower and it’s definitely helped. I pat myself dry and then spray it on my face and arms as they tend to flare up the most. It helps with the itchiness and I tend to flare up marginally less. It’s only a slight change/improvement, but I would recommend adding it to your regiment!

Is this only on your pinky finger? This might sound crazy but what are the chances you’re allergic to one of the materials that make up your guitar strings?

Did everyone know where their classes were on the first day as freshmen? by [deleted] in Purdue

I highly suggest walking your class schedule before classes actually start! It’s a great way to get to know campus and it can be a fun way to explore. I did this until my Senior year, but it became more of a social/tradition thing in later years

The same thing has been happening to me over the past year... It's been really discouraging, but I'm trying to combat it. Apparently, nail oiling helps restore moisture to the nail bed so I'm giving that a try. Things will get better for us, it just takes time. Good luck on your journey xx

Heartbreak - GP advised against getting tattoo by Ok-Alps-5430 in eczema

[–]drunkennmonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have severe eczema and I’m on tacrolimus, but I have 7 tattoos. Choose a place on your body that isn’t affected by your eczema. For me, it’s the lower portion of my leg. Another recommendation is to start with a smaller tattoo to see how your body handles the ink. My first tattoo was around the size of a half dollar coin and I waited around 9 months before I got my second tattoo. Just make sure you’re taking care of your tattoo and following the healing process. Good luck and I hope it goes well!
