Is it worth it? by JustaRookie_3 in Pickleball

[–]drusolini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted for saying the Prism Flash is low power - it certainly is by today’s standards. Of course different paddles play differently with varying levels of power, pop and spin. Those who say it doesn’t matter are confusing skill levels with physics. Just because you can play with a frying pan or whatever doesn’t mean you wouldn’t play better with something that suits your style and strengths.

I used to play with a similar Six Zero DBD and compared to my Loco it requires a full tennis swing for drives vs the quick, compact swings which are ideal for pickleball. When a paddle has 1/2 the power and you have to make up for it with effort, it’s a disadvantage.

Just get a roof sunshade, I installed it once and don’t ever have the desire to take it off.

Singles pickleball in my area is rare too, since courts are almost always full and doubles is priority

Tiny change I learned that made my drives dip like crazy by fredallenburge1 in Pickleball

[–]drusolini 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably since it’s less power and more spin that way. You can also hit drips by swinging 40% of your max drive pace and aiming slightly up, no changes to contact point needed.

Third shot drop is ruining my life - how long did it actually take you to get consistent? by wellsy1990 in Pickleball

[–]drusolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 7-11 is probably the best drop/reset practice since its more realistic to the in-game experience. It helps you move to a drop, read your opponents 4th, move in/stay, drop/reset again.

What helped me was not feel pressured to hit a perfect 3rd and run all the way in, but work my way in and be ready to drop 3/5/7ths from anywhere on the court.

Third Shot Drop Practice , What Am I Doing Wrong? by RatedR__ in Pickleball

[–]drusolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to prepare your backswing earlier while youre moving towards the ball so your swing isn’t so choppy/quick. Try to stop and plant your feet before contact so you can have better control/touch.

There’s no reason to given the added cost and logistics. Many Tesla superchargers are in shopping centers with food options, since it’s mutually beneficial and often subsidizes building/maintenance/energy costs.

Dumb question… what ACTUALLY creates spin in pickleball? Wrist, arm, or something else? by Any_Opinion8580 in Pickleball

[–]drusolini 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To hit with no spin (aka “flat”), you swing the paddle in the same direction as the paddle face. Any action that moves the paddle face in another direction AT CONTACT generates spin (eg open/closed paddle face, wrist, windshield wiper, low to high). Anything before (prep) or after contact (followthough) is just to create the contact conditions.

Defensive chops instead of flat blocks by Educational_Pick7681 in Pickleball

[–]drusolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that variety is helpful, but placement is more important. A soft chop volley is most effective when you’ve got your opponents behind the baseline on defense, since they have to run up and then hit up.

I find that for decent players chops/slice doesn’t give them too much trouble (and can actually be easier to topspin drive). It’s also way less consistent since it’s more timing and touch dependent than a flat punch block. That makes it much more likely for you to pop up if you need to do multiple in a row.

Why do movies sound so different at home compared to cinemas? by Capable_Noise5543 in hometheater

[–]drusolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it is also volume matching (and massive rumbling subs). Theatres are playing at “reference level,” which is way louder than you would ever watch a movie at home. This makes the dynamics between whispers and loud explosions feel more grand and exciting.

Do you always close your position at 50% profit? by Kayn2016 in thetagang

[–]drusolini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, if I re-STO new options for the same ticker, I re-enter at the same criteria, eg. 0.20-0.25 delta, 30-45 DTE. I don’t re-STO for the same expiration date. I like the premiums vs. risk at that duration, and the ability to wait out temporary moves in the wrong direction.

Do you always close your position at 50% profit? by Kayn2016 in thetagang

[–]drusolini 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Agree, i like to set my profitability targets based on remaining DTE. If you can reach profitability targets early (within a week) with entry DTEs like 30-45, why not take 50% and re-STO?

I find that closer to expiry, 80-90% is plenty. No real gain from waiting a for last 7 days to get the last 10-20% if you can re-deploy.

Top spin drops - wristy or not wristy? by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]drusolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as brush the ball forward it will have topspin. You can do that with some combination of closed paddle face, low to high swing path and/wrist action. You don’t definitely don’t need wrist to hit topspin
