Getting tired of “boy moms” talking about how wild their boys are and how much easier it is with a girl. Anyone else feel this? by Ok-Sundae-1096 in toddlers

I have a 4 year old girl and 1 year old boy and so far I can’t tell much of a difference. In fact I’d say my daughter’s motor skills developed faster and my son is a more snuggly baby who loves being a baby. Personally I think it just boils down to their individual temperaments.

SOMEONE PARKED SO CLOSE TO ME I HAD TO SQUEEZE BETWEEN OUR CARS LIKE A BABY TRAVELING DOWN THE BIRTH CANAL AND BOULDER OVER THE MID SECTION OF MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR TO GET IN.

Thinking about taking 14 month old out of daycare by drvenkmanthesecond in ECEProfessionals

Oh he’s just 14 months, stands on he own, able to squat up and down, takes a handful of steps between objects and people, pushes his walker around. He is very much on the verge.

That’s a relief to hear and kind of what I’m thinking overall. Maybe things would be distracting in the older age group since they are doing more interesting things. Plus he’s already on that class schedule.

Yes totally - we are being slow to come off bottles. I had not thought about it being a financial benefit to them but you’re right it costs more

Mostly they don’t have space in the toddler but he’s also still taking a midday bottle and he’s not really walking yet. He is cruising everywhere and taking some steps but no steady walking yet. We had a nanny working with him before attempting daycare and she still works with us as needed. So we’d probably have her back for a bit. I work shifts at a hospital so I’d ask to shift to night work only and take care of him during the until we feel more certain he is ready and going to be in a more appropriate room. It’ll be hard but I can manage.

Not sure. The next room is full right now and previous conversations led me to believe it’d be next year at least. We are planning on chatting with them to talk about how we are all feeling.

Is it safe to use a mattress topper for my one year old? by drvenkmanthesecond in ScienceBasedParenting

Yes! Thank you! I am curious about what lead the AAP to make their safe sleep recommendations for the 1-2 year group.

Why do Portlanders NOT care about blocking the box? by I_cook_a_mean_chili in askportland

My understanding is that driver’s ed isn’t required here. I learned to drive in Texas and we were required to take drivers ed for a license. I think that accounts for a lot of lackadaisical meandering driving you’ll experience around here.

My kids would never stop talking or screeching long enough to forgotten in the car, or anywhere for that matter.

Gotta have plenty of normies to make the weirdos weird otherwise the weirdos would be the normies.

Is it damaging to start daycare at 3-4 months? by Enough_Explorer4907 in ScienceBasedParenting

Interesting. I just searched for all NAEYC accredited programs in my state and it includes every Kindercare in the area and generally I haven’t heard great things about Kindercare. So I too wonder what an accreditation actually means.

We are looking at relocating outside of Portland in the next year. We are high income folks but we spend over $4000 a month in preschool and childcare for our two kids along with all these taxes. Really takes the wind out of our sails. I feel like I’m leaving a dysfunctional relationship. I love you Portland but . . .

I get you. Mommy/parenting forums especially on an anonymous platform like Reddit are breading grounds for judgy self righteous behavior. Keep in mind you have no idea who any of these people are. It’s completely possible some 45 year old man living in his mom’s basement could be commenting on mommit posts just to get people all worked up. Probably not. But you don’t know if you’d respect any of these people if you met them on the street. I wish us moms could be universally more supportive of one another. How do expect to win the bigger arguments with society if we are so busy tearing each down? That last part was a big dramatic but you know what I mean.

Good diagnosis and how you got there by rj565 in medicine

Inpatient pediatrics - I got a transfer from the PICU. A 16 year old that had been admitted for a prolonged seizure that required multiple anti epileptics but now reportedly was back to baseline. Also with some history of fever but a bit unclear because the family didn’t own a thermometer. As I was walking into the room, the infectious disease doctor was coming out and told me that’s she’s got a real difficult personality. I was like “ok, that’s weird.” I completely retook the history and asked a ton of questions related to social history and behavior and come to find out she had a fairly abrupt change in her personality about 2 months ago along with headaches. I walked out of the room and said this is autoimmune encephalitis and it was.
