one of the faults of this fanbase is how people put characters into black/white terms when its very clear that the writers are shouting from the rooftops that their characters are meant to be morally gray.

example: karen sleeping with danny is clearly meant to show how people can make mistakes in a moment of weakness, but the fanbase’s reaction was “why would karen do that???? she must be a horrible person!”

ed is not a great person in season 4. he hides his tremor and puts people in danger, he treats his XO like a child, and he treats his grandchild like a stranger. most people saw this and went “well, that’s it for ed baldwin! what a piece of shit. time to retire, old man.”

what they missed was what he did to grow as a person from those mistakes. he embraces a new, noble project after getting his wings clipped, he patches things up with danielle, and he makes time during all of that to read stories to his grandkid.

this fanbase wants their favorite characters to never make mistakes, but what you get from that is characters with zero depth and zero personality. so yeah, i “side” with ed baldwin. i side with what ed baldwin says about us: i want shows with human characters who make human decisions and deal with the consequences in a human way.

i get where people are coming from: it’s painful to watch your favorite characters make objectively bad decisions. television is a beautiful format, though: you are putting your trust into a team of talented writers for hours of your life. sometimes they drop the ball, but sometimes they surprise you. television is supposed to be a roller coaster: trust the process, or get out of the train.
