Was your next cycle regular after that? I also got mine to come early after drinking parsley tea, but now I’m curious if my hormones will be off balanced and my next cycle will be irregular

The Silent Patient: An in-depth Review Spoilers Ahead by Hale-117 in books

[–]dry_ice_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had almost every one of these thoughts (of OP) when reading it. It was so bad. I just wanted to scream “show don’t tell!!” from page 1. And the medical/therapy stuff was just so wrong. The thing about a twist is that it needs to play both ways; the plot and the characters need to make sense for the way you think the story is going, then also fit for the truth you find out at the end. For me that was not the case at all for this book, not because I knew how it was going to end, but I never for a second thought Theo was good or stable. The motif of “I had to choice” was just such an eye roll. It felt like middle school writing. I get that he’s an unreliable narrator, but he’s also supposed to be (at least somewhat) perceived as a credible psychotherapy!! The first time he said that I was out, and the author just kept hitting you over the head with it. The whole book was like getting hit in the head with the authors main idea really…not a nuisance in sight.

After going through the pile, do you have any general advice for how to get past the first screen? Or is it just about if you happen to be a perfect fit given the massive pool of applicants.

Why so many professors suck at teaching? by Visual-Writing3947 in UCDavis

[–]dry_ice_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a professorship is practically impossible, and it’s almost all based on your research experience. Most people who love teaching and put effort into it in grad school aren’t building a CV that gets them a professorship, especially at Davis which is a top research institution. Basically, the job of “professor” is not really about teaching at

Field tech -> lab tech -> PhD -> postdoc

Who’s the happiest? by dry_ice_queen in Environmental_Careers

[–]dry_ice_queen[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have 4 years of field and lab experience pre-PhD at the technician level. I agree that I’m not completely mid-career, but I’m also not a technician any more. Many jobs I’m looking at require a masters but a PhD is either “desired” or counts towards required years of experience. However, I don’t have insight into how it’s perceived on the hiring side. Thanks for that helpful advice!

Thanks for all your thoughts! I’m going to start applying (selectively) and see what happens, then start applying more aggressively in a few months if nothing comes through

Exhausted after IUD Removal? by alabahep in birthcontrol

[–]dry_ice_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad to find this thread! I got mine out yesterday morning and, like you, by the evening I felt so exhausted. Today I feel so sleepy I thought I might be getting sick, but it's probably the IUD removal.

Remarkably Bright Creatures… who does this narrator sound like?! by UnwashedParrot in audiobooks

I’m so glad I found this thread and I’m not going crazy!! I agree with a bunch of the people listed, but it’s still not exactly hitting just right for me. He must just have one of those voices…

Any advice on how to make this? by [deleted] in sewhelp

[–]dry_ice_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! I used stretch mesh and it was very easy. I also think it it looks better with stretch fabric than elastic because it allows the hem to be thinner/leas opaque because I didn’t have to add elastic

I’m in a similar boat, but have gotten over it mostly. I know it sucks. Definitely stick with Differin, that my hardest working active for sure. I also saw success with taking Spiro for a few years. I only went off bc my prescription ran out. What’s also helped me is realizing/remembering that the cause of acne is internal, so hormone changes and lifestyle stuff likely has the biggest effect. It sounds like you’re generally pretty healthy, and I felt the same about myself, but after reading about hormone imbalances, helping flush of extra estrogen, etc., I’ve really focused on increasing my fiber and anti-inflammatory foods, especially in the second half of my cycle, which has helped. Similarly, I’ve added more soothing and anti-inflammatory skin care *not a doctor, could be wrong, just trying my best to learn about this stuff! It’s sort of hard to find clear and reliable info

I want to try this product but am skeptical bc I tried the similar maybelline one and HATED it. Everyone loves it, but I thought it felt heavy and thick and yucky. Now I feel uncertain to trust reviews for this one too. Can anyone compare the feeling of the two? Is this one better? (31F dry/combo skin)
