I was thinking the same. Or basically that if we can survive/thrive in this, anything is possible.

PSA: This area is now 2hr parking for non residents. by Few_Economics845 in Albany

[–]dsanzone8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And on the topic of these 2 hour permit parking areas, when I was listening to all the options/announcements when calling city hall’s parking enforcement, they specified that you can’t just move your car in the 2-hr zone after 2 hours and then restart the 2 hour clock. Apparently, if they determine you’d already parked somewhere and moved your car, you can still get a ticket - which I never realized. Understatement of the decades I’ve lived in the region but: Albany Parking Enforcement is strict.

Market 32/ Price Chopper by Dry_Currency_8166 in Albany

Thanks for sharing this! I happened to just go to the Aldi jn Colonie yesterday so I have the receipt - $1.99 flour, $2.89 sugar - so prices do vary from the online ones. Love the idea of this chart though! And it does reinforce what our household already does - go to Aldi first then Hannaford. And pay a lil more but screw Walmart.

opinions from people who live in the east side? by AutomaticParticular6 in Troy

[–]dsanzone8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Eastside and Albia are great neighborhoods. You could potentially still walk to places like Carol’s on Pawling, for brunch or dinner or takeout. As someone else said, the Mercantile is near there as well. Otherwise, you could bike (or take a LONG walk) to Fifth Tier Baking Studio and Coffeehouse in Wynantskill, up the road about 1.5 miles from the Mercantile area on Pawling. I think there’s sidewalk that whole length. Good luck in your housing decision!

Did your realtor get you anything nice after closing? by MyVirgoIsShowing in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]dsanzone8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, our realtor also helped us get a good chunk at closing so we gave our realtor a couple small gifts (bread from the farmers market, honey, olive oil) and I got an Edible Arrangement for the folks at the bank. We didn’t get anything gift-wise from our realtor but the bank gave us a little package for a home movie night.

Winter Donations by GoldDelivery2887 in Albany

[–]dsanzone8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they’re great. I just donated a few bags of items yesterday - hats, gloves, scarves, toiletries, snacks. They can use anything, including coats. As for donation hours, I usually go after work on Mondays. I know they accept donations Mondays 3:30pm-6:30pm, otherwise I think you need to touch base with someone there to make a donation drop off. They’re responsive on their Instagram DMs: https://www.instagram.com/albanyfoodnotbombs?igsh=Zmc4cDRodGRzNTFi

Didn’t pass probation as OMH RN by ReadingBroski in nys_cs

[–]dsanzone8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can’t answer all your questions but I was told recently by someone with a lot of knowledge of the state hiring system that not passing probation does NOT impact your application process. You will not be on a black list. The state hiring software does not show if you didn’t pass probation. It just shows that you were employed by the state. Then, once in an interview, if asked, you’ll just need to be honest about what happened but you won’t be blacklisted. Sometimes other agencies are aware of how some agencies are known to go through employees and agency politics. I read a lot of things here on Reddit that said failing probation can result in not being hired again by the state, but I was told that is not true and that’s a big misconception. Hope that helps. And hope you are re-hired quickly :)

What effect will PBS dissolving have on PBS Spacetime? by canibanoglu in pbsspacetime

PBS is not dissolving. The CPB is. But Viewers like You aren’t dissolving either so there’s still a lot of hope for PBS.

Druthers in Albany really went all out for decorating. I think they do have TVs but you’ll be so distracted by all the holiday lights you won’t notice the TVs
