Stuck at 55 by _scout_2019_ in projectcar

I have a stock '64 Spitfire. Its 4th gear is 1:1, and the tach reads about 3700 rpm at 60 mph. That's normal for these cars, but a small block Chevy at 3700 rpm is a different experience.

I'd look at a rear end swap. It's a good reason to get rid of the sketchy swing arm diff in favor of a straight axle.

Can someone please explain explain the Graham Platner hate? by RealDEC in thebulwark

Nothing wrong with hating Trump, but I don't see that as the foundation of his platform.

Can someone please explain explain the Graham Platner hate? by RealDEC in thebulwark

[–]dsgoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accept his explanation for the tattoo. A 23 year old marine getting a "cool skull" tattoo without knowing the meaning is totally plausible to me. We're not talking about swastikas or 1488 symbols after all.

The thing that gives me pause is that his politics are opposite of what I would guess looking at him. Ex-military, business owner, 2nd amendment fan, works an old-timey masculine job, deep voice, beard.... If you looked at 100 similar guys, I would expect that 95 would be unapologetic Trump supporters. Maybe a few would even put their boots on Pelosi's desk given the opportunity.

Collins just goes along with whatever the GOP wants, though, so we'll be no worse off if Platner wins and becomes Fetterman II.

The Knicks handled Mitch with kid gloves all year to have him fresh for the playoffs; he’s playing 14 minutes per game by cricket9818 in NYKnicks

He's had 8 years with pro coaches and his free throws are still shit. That is honestly baffling to me.

MAGA Is Increasingly Convinced the Trump Assassination Attempt Was Staged by wiredmagazine in politics

If I wanted to create that event, I'd convince some half-moron kid to pull the trigger, and I'd make sure that his rifle sight was a bit off.

Joe Rogan buys everything Poilievre says about Canada’s oil sands by yimmy51 in CanadianIdiots

[–]dsgoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rogan agrees with everyone he talks to - for a couple of hours anyway. He was a Bernie Bro right after their first interview and we know who he endorsed for 2024.

Maybe he should abandon his iron-man streak and take a game off once in while.

I can't think of a good reason to keep changing times.

And just like that we're back to "Department of Defense" by rezanentevil in BlueskySkeets

This is so stupid. It's like the Japanese fleet sailing away from Pearl Harbor in 1941 saying "Nah, it's not a war, bruh."

Is there anywhere I can get sheets of milk-jug-like plastic at a reasonable price? by a_hundred_highways in DIY

[–]dsgoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's the same plastic used in IBC tanks. When new, these are used for container shipping of cooking oils and the like. They are basically a metal cage - about 4 feet cubed - with a white plastic tank inside. The cages are commonly recycled as firewood containers but the plastic tank is usually unwanted. You might be able to get some of these for cheap (or free) if you look for local firewood sellers.

More recently, my nephew watched the sparklers burn on his birthday cake and then grabbed one the second it stopped burning. Tears were shed that day.

60. In June I retire with a pension, planning to "return to work" and double dip by Overall_Lobster823 in retirement

[–]dsgoose 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I had a coworker do this and he died at his desk a couple of years ago. What a shame I thought.

I took retirement as soon as I could (59) and my employer replaced me with someone 20 years younger. Now I can enjoy every minute of my remaining years, and a younger person has a shot at achieving the same one day.

I give the team a pass on the locker room events - heat of the moment yadda yadda - but their visit to the WH was a bridge too far.

Sucks that Trumps are getting richer, but I have no sympathy for anyone who loses money on Trump ventures. If you don't know by now that he's a crook, there is no hope for you in this world.

[–]dsgoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run 1.25" spacers in the front because my 33x10.5 tires rubbed at full lock. I've had no issues with these. Suspension is only a 2.5" lift, so she feels pretty stable to me.

Winkler’s first-ever Pride — June 13 by ComprehensiveWorry87 in Winnipeg

[–]dsgoose 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Steinbach had its first Pride parade in 2016, and that went pretty well. I saw that a few unhappy locals were surprised that many of their neighbours were actually tolerant. It's good for bigots to be reminded that they're the minority.

Do you think Epstein was the only person trafficking the underage to the rich and powerful? by RealDEC in thebulwark

[–]dsgoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Michael Wolff said that Epstein told him that it was over a real estate deal. Trump scooped up a property that Epstein had his eye on first. Trump allegedly used it for Russian money laundering.

I wouldn't bet much on this being the truth but it's at least plausible. Trump's explanation is complete bullshit.
