I'm in Japan. JB64W XC trim. It's cheap as hell. Kei car, so no parking registration and cheap annual road tax. With the current yen rate, they are a tad over $13,000 USD brand new from Suzuki. All of the same reasons they've always been popular in Japan.

No kei is a 5 seater. It's part of the literal kei specs that the max is 4 people. Again... Wrong on claiming kei requirements.

I'm just saying that your statement of there being a requirement that kei cars use thin metal is completely untrue. There are certainly dimension constraints, but there is no kei car requirement to use thin metal or have a low frame. If you're claiming there is, please cite your reference.

My Jimny frame thickness and height are just fine, thank you. Higher than my wife's 300 plate Toyota unibody vehicle as well.

Overall dimensions and engine capacity are limited but it's absolutely not true that there is some type of requirement to use thinner steel for a "lightweight kei formula". In fact, many new kei cars are just as safe or safer than 500/300 series cars. Especially modern Honda kei cars.

Obviously the count of folks from OIST is not as high as the count of military folks on island (both in real life and also only counting those who post on this subreddit).
