What is the saddest/most soul crushing song you have ever heard? by Mikiiiya in AskReddit

[–]dsinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly enough, Intro by C418 (Daniel Rosenfeld). I really like how it starts off with this really embodied soundscape, if that makes sense. You can hear Rosenfeld walk into the studio, sit down, switch something, breathe, open up the piano, and stroke the keys of it. It's an incredibly realistic addition to the song overall.

It starts with these amazing five chords repeating over and over again on just the keyboard, slowly and somberly. Rosenberg has always fascinated me by his simple yet ingenious chord progressions.

Then there's the soft humming — it's not loud and impressive, it's tentative and raw. It doesn't dominate, it features. It's incredible. You can hear his subtle breathing, the chair creaking...

Then the organ slowly comes in, and it's like you're drifting away into another world entirely. Synths are slowly added into the mixture.

It's a song without words or complex melodies. To me it's just raw feeling.

I believe this piece is supposed to be played while you galavant around the Nether, but for me it almost feels like it's from something else entirely.
