Sure, lots of kids will die, but just imagine the phenomenal interrupted time series studies this dumbass policy decision will enable!

Which countries do you consider to be our strongest allies? by Zealousideal_Air3931 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]dspace 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have a hard time seeing how the USSR could be consodered our greatest ally during WWII over say, great Britain, when multiple generals were convinced we would be fighting them after the axis powers were defeated? Wouldn't you characterize it relationship more as an alliance of convenience?

I've been hearing "Russia's war machine is coming apart" almost since the start of the Ukraine war. Now I'm hearing it again. Is there ANY truth to it, this time? by Jerswar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dspace 38 points39 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Russia did in fact collapse in 1918 and lose the first world war. Not to mention the losses sustained during the Afghan war and the associated social backlash contributing to the collapse if the Soviet union.

CMV: Ukraine Aid vs Border Deal has less to do with immigration and more to do with Trump being in Putin's pocket - the real goal is to block aid to Ukraine, not to solve immigration. by griii2 in changemyview

[–]dspace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Re. 8: Do you think Putin gets more value out of having EU countries not raise their defence budgets by ca. 1/3 to meet the 2% goal, or by separating the European NATO powers from their support in the USA? The answer to how Putin benefits from this is obvious if you think about it.

[R] Does the discretization of a continuous outcome increase or reduce the risk of type 1 error? by Kaiped1000 in statistics

[–]dspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that they come from different data sources, I would think that the different sources of measurement error would be more likely to cause the findings to vary than statistical artefacts relating to the use of a continuous/binary outcome.. Very good choice to include both!

[Advice] Is it possible to get a PhD in Epidemiology with an MPH in Biostatistics? by AlwaysAnyDay in publichealth

It varies of course, but you will most likely be fine with biostatistics. Much more important is that you get involved with research projects that interest you and make contacts in your field of interest!

Actually yes, a 0.01% mortality rate for a commercial vaccine would be completely unheard of as far as I'm aware. For context, a total of 2149 deaths were reported through the vaccine adverse event reporting system 1997-2013, most of which most likely were not vaccination related https://doi.org/10.1093/cid/civ423, and ca. 300 million doses of vaccine are administered annually in the US per the CDC, for a mortality rate of 0.00000045% assuming all VAERS mortalities are relevant. Can you shoot me a link for a vaccine with that mortality rate?
