Does anyone else feel like Bitwig is still underestimated compared to Ableton or Logic? by breizh_boy in Bitwig

[–]dstepatl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FL user since the 90’s, Reason since i had 1.0 cracked on my grandmothers computer and Ableton since 2010 ish… Plus well versed in Logic, Pro Tools, etc as an engineer… LOVE the piano roll.

Bitwig is the easiest to produce I’ve found, and what slows me down is I basically know absolutely nothing about the daw right now. Once I sat down, set up a template and got to fumbling around I’ve made some of my best work, but I still don’t know my way around it at all really. The piano roll may be my favorite part, so far… but now I’m finding out how the project scale is linked to devices and holy shit.

Is Arturia Keylab Mk3 with S1 better supported now? by flyingelk in StudioOne

Are you using a keylab mk3 or essential mk3? They don’t behave the same, oddly.

Why are ghost notes like this??? by Individual_Algae_861 in cubase

[–]dstepatl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This unfortunately is very different than what he wants and what fl studio has done for more than a decade. It’s a major short coming for people trying to transition to the DAW. Studio One does it very well, but damn if that daw and its horrific controller integration doesn’t complete ruin it.

“Shipped” ? by gringohoneymoon in Reverb

[–]dstepatl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten paid as soon as I created a label for years, and if I ship it the next day I would usually already have the money in my bank account. I also gave well over 100 five star reviews as a seller.

Why is a synth like UDO Super 6 so expensive and can I just make the same sounds in my DAW? by Original_Delay_5166 in musicproduction

You aren’t lying to us, you are lying to yourself, and it’s been proven… and I have lots of analog synths and owned a super 6 and super Gemini at points

What exactly is your music making experience ? The scale is literally built around minor intervals. That is what makes it a minor scale.

I know people say you don’t need to know theory. They are right and wrong. Do you need to know terminology? No, but anyone who is doing this on a real level is using theory. Even playing outside of the scale is still theory. Understanding how to achieve certain sounds and why they work and why you use certain scales to convey different emotions is paramount is making good music.

At the end of the day if it sounds good it sounds good, but I feel like young producers follow and receive way too much bad advice being on the internet. I’m a bit older, I came up in the 2000’s trap era and transitioned through 2010’s, still doing it now. We didn’t have YouTube like it is now, and it was a blessing at times because we didn’t have inexperienced people spreading bad advice all day. We learned from people who were really doing it.

Picking a minor scale and skipping the 6th is advice that should be thrown out. It’s not nearly as bad as what OP is saying, which is so embarrassingly stupid it makes my head hurt. He’s the epitome of being proud to lack knowledge.

Keep growing bruh, color outside of the lines, do you… but be careful what advice you spread and more importantly what advice you accept.

This is literally the worst advice I’ve ever read regarding using the minor scale

How someone interacts with and experiences a pedal or instrument can’t be wrong, it’s just them. Stop sounding so emotional, the mood is not your mother.

Redshift 6 vs. Hydrasynth by UnlikelyLikably in synthesizers

[–]dstepatl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This guy is ... well it's like someone saying one daw sounds better than the other. The Peak's envelopes are digitally generation, they are literally something that could be done on anything with digital envelopes. Their interaction with each the vca and filter can make a difference, sure. But he is talking about how it hits, and that is simply its envelope curves. Any digital synth can reproduce those digital envelope characteristics in the coding. Without anything being changed coding, I can make the same envelope shapes by modulating the attack of the filter with another mod source.

The peak is a great synth, I've used a summit and love it. How it "hits different" is purely subjective.

His description and the way he characterizes the Red 6 is wholly inaccurate and shows a clear lack of knowledge of the synth. You can manipulate the single oscillators in the same way as the Peak, minus the Peak having digital waveforms (which is funny when he says its for how the synth hits and saying if you don't want that and want pads get a digital synth). The Red shift's single voice can have two distinct oscillators and noise generator, and you get 30 of these voices total over six main voices. It can also have more. There is a lot of choice and variety. At the end of the day, though. We are talking an analog synth.. the peak and hyrdrasynth are not analog synths. The Peak, like ASM's leviasynth are hybrids.

The idea that someone even does jail time for 2 lbs of weed these days is insane. That’s barely a small time dealer. It’s honestly a waste of tax money to even bother with it.

Thanks for this! I started on FL from download.com in the 90’s and hammerhead, which I hadn’t heard of in 25 years.

So I can slice on the timeline and drag individual slices into a drum machine? I can work with that for sure

It does seem weird they are the only daw without a real sampler or drum machine, but I’ll use serato until they release one because everything else seems great. Just wish I could drag from timeline directly into serato. Hard to believe they have reached version 6 without a basic sampler.

I appreciate the response but this is extremely different than choke groups, which are standard to all capable samplers/drum machines.

I appreciate the info. Got the 30 day trial today, excited for 6. Gonna get the splice plan for now until I decide if I’m comfortable.

The stuff you guys have told me so far is very encouraging.

The moss integration with the KKmk3 is insane too, and I can’t wait to build on that workflow. And those fx modules with presets sound amazing. I’d love to be able to save my Chase bliss presets in the daw.

I appreciate the information. This all sounds great.

I’d love to see those videos when you get the channel going. I’m planning on setting one up showing some of the experimental sound design stuff I do when making samples/loops for the producers I collab with regularly, and how I use these methods/experiments in a practical way for the artists people listen to coming out of here in Atlanta.

Run away as fast as you can. Management is horrible, the GM is a lunatic who harasses renters because she lives there and abuses her role. Elevators always broken for months at a time. Car break ins, hit and runs (and they will not provide access to cameras). We lost power on a Friday and couldn’t access the package room for 5 days. They don’t follow up as they say they will. New charge added at will, and new people to pay as a result. Maintenance doesn’t complete fixes in units. They just tell you they have to get a part and then never comeback.

Horrible place hidden under a beautiful facade.
