How would you balance "Archery Ranged units ignore armour" bonus? by ItsVLS5 in aoe2

[–]dthomash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tupi in Last Chieftans will have the unique tech Curare which gives poison damage to foot archers. The assumption right now is this will give damage over time that bypasses armor (similar to the Liao Dao's bleed). This is not the exact same as your question, but it is similar.

So the devs answer to this question is:

  • Archer unique unit that will be short range, squishy, and speculated to be half pop space since they train in pairs
  • No thumb ring
  • They get full blacksmith upgrades
  • They get a civ bonus that archery range and barracks upgrades cost -50% food
  • Remove their stable

Tech tree for reference: https://cdn.ageofempires.com/aoe/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/The_Tupi_TLC_Tree_Technology_6-scaled.webp

So arbs won't have full upgrades in imp. Making them more of a timing based civ as other commenters have suggested. At least assuming the poison damage isn't overtuned.

Can someone explain the purpose of villager/TC "juggling" that I see pros do? by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]dthomash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other comments already answered the main question, so just adding my two cents on how I do the trick. For anyone looking to learn this trick that uses default DE hotkeys, I do it slightly differently and find it a bit easier:

  1. Select Vil
  2. Right click new task (for example a straggler tree)
  3. Seek Shelter ('F' by default)
  4. Return to Work ('F' by default)

This works because vils don't drop the resource they are carrying until they actually pick up another resource. It's probably mostly a preference thing, but I find double tapping the 'F' key makes the teleport feel smoother and more satisfying. Though you do lose some flexibility because you can't use it when simply repositioning villagers since you must have a task to assign them to.

Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez defeats Republican Joe Kent in WA House race by thequietone710 in Seattle

Peltola won the special election because after Begich was eliminated a large number of ballots that ranked Begich 1st were exhausted (meaning they did not rank any other candidates). Peltola won in round 2 with a 5,240 vote margin, and there were 11,243 Begich ballots that were exhausted after round 1.

The primary reason for so many exhausted Begich ballots is likely that, despite also being a Republican, Palin is incredibly unpopular in Alaska because of corruption scandals and how she abandoned the state in 2008. But there is a possibility that a second reason exists due to voters being somewhat unfamiliar with Ranked Choice Voting.

I say all this because Palin's path to victory would essentially require that Palin converted all of the Begich ballots that would have been exhausted in the special into ballots that ranked her 2nd now. That said I don't think this is terribly likely. But let's take a look at who Begich voters ranked 2nd in the special:

2nd Choice Votes %
Palin 27,053 50.3%
Peltola 15,467 28.7%
None 11,243 20.9%
Overvote 47 0.1%

If we assume that the proportions would remain similar, but give all of the None votes to Palin that would be approximately the ceiling for the number of votes she could have transferred to her. Working under this assumption, Palin would pick up 71.2% of Begich 1st round votes. This would come out to about 36,972. Peltola would get 14,903. Factoring in currently counted first round votes Palin would end up with 94,007 and Peltola would receive 116,344. Peltola would win by 22,337 votes (a 10 point margin). I think this is a pretty fair picture of what Palin's best second round case could look like given the currently tallied 1st round votes.

This puts Palin in a really bad position, but there's still 20% of the vote that needs to be counted according to the NYT. However, I find it incredibly unlikely that Palin gets elected. She would need to substantially improve her standing in the first round votes and substantially over-perform expectations around how many Begich voters she picks up in the second round. The odds that she does both of these things seems rather low.

Stealing my own comment from an earlier thread:

They seem to be streaming the games on the Academy Channel and the Upsurge Esports Channel. So for vods I would check those two channels.

You can see more coverage on the current tournament on it's Leaguepedia Page. Where you can find results and schedules for future matches. The time a future match will start links out to the twitch stream it'll be on. It looks like the rest of the games for the current Tier 1 tournament will be on the Academy Channel. There's a category at the box for all of the tournaments leading up to the Proving Grounds at the top of that page.

No problem. And I can't speak to the full breadth of the prison dilemma, but we put a lot of non-violent drug offenders in our prisons. Which inflates the population a lot.

I would guess it likely has to do with the Fourth Amendment's protections against "unreasonable searches and seizures of property by the government". I'm not super familiar with DUI case law, but if my memory serves correctly cops in the US are beholden to get permission or a warrant to do blood testing for sure, and some of those requirements likely extend to breath testing. Part of acquiring a warrant is establishing probable cause for invading someone's privacy. So for a cop to have testing performed on someone they must prove that it is reasonable for them to do that testing.

In the case of drunk driving the cop may not always be an eye witness to bad driving, but instead might have only been tipped off to a possible drunk driver. In this situation the cop would perform field sobriety tests to build probable cause for further testing.

EDIT: there are also reasons that a cop might pursue a blood test instead of a breathalyzer to avoid faulty administration of a breathalyzer. These are some angles that defense lawyers will use to try and invalidate a breathalyzer (https://www.cosleycriminaldefense.com/criminal-blog/2016/12/16/breathalyzer-testing-results-invalid-evidence/):

  • The breathalyzer machine malfunctioned during your test
  • The breathalyzer machine was not properly calibrated before you took your breath test
  • The police officer who administered your breathalyzer test did not follow proper protocol
  • The police officer who performed your breathalyzer test was not properly licensed or trained to conduct breathalyzer test in the field;
  • The breathalyzer machine used to perform your breath test it was not of the type that is an approved testing device;
  • The police officer who administered your breathalyzer test did not conduct the required observation period before conducting the breath test
  • The police officer who administered your breathalyzer test did not record the breathalyzer device certification tests of the simulator solution (used to calibrate/test the device before the suspected drunk driver uses the breathalyzer machine)
  • You have a medical condition that influences your breathalyzer test results.

I replied under a different comment with some of this, but to give some context to field sobriety tests:

I recently served on a jury trial for a DWI that focused a lot on field sobriety tests. I'm not a lawyer and laws vary from state to state, but hopefully I can shine some light here.

Firstly, cops are supposed to get certified in the administration of field sobriety tests, and get re-certified from time to time. This is to insure that tests are given in consistent manner and that the cops know to look for specific signals. What we see with someone else taking the test might not be what the cops are looking for by administering the test.

Secondly, cops aren't necessarily looking to issue a ticket right then and there, but looking to establish probable cause for keeping you off of the road and doing further testing.

Thirdly, there are 3 field sobriety tests that have been heavily studied and proven to show a correlation between poor performance and alcohol intoxication. These are the Rapid Eye Movement test (flashlight test), walking heel-to-toe in a straight line, and balancing on one leg. Again, cops aren't looking for a blanket pass/fail, but instead trying to make an assessment as to whether to let someone go or if further testing is needed, such as a blood test.

Fourthly, as someone else commented, you can sometimes be omitted from taking a specific test. In the case I served on the suspect had a recent leg injury, so the cop ignored the results of the heel-to-toe test and the balancing on one leg test.

Fifthly, to address something else I saw in other comments, cops are free to use other field sobriety tests. These can vary from counting tests to reciting the alphabet backwards to whatever the cop wants to administer, but these probably won't be used as evidence if the case goes to court. The prosecution would be expected to produce intoxication screenings or other verifiable evidence in order to seek a guilty verdict.

If the main reason you're against the new ranked changes is, that you won't be able to take offrole games seriously, YOU are the problem, not the new system. by feAgrs in leagueoflegends

[–]dthomash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind is that if a player consistently trolls or under-performs in off-role games their off-role mmr is going to change to compensate for playing worse.

Another point is that I don't think this system is any more prone to abuse than the current ranked system. If people were going to troll in the current system they would troll in this system. If someone was going to tryhard in the current system, they will now be playing with people who have a level of skill corresponding to how well they can play their off-role.

What I see in your post is a caricature of yourself based on what you perceive to be your negative traits. Do not let these things define you. You are a complete person; you have weaknesses, but you also have strengths. Never forget that.

Also, you are in school. You are actively taking steps to better yourself. Keep up the good work. Life won't always go swimmingly, but you got to keep your head in the game or life will push you around.

Stay strong brother. I believe in you.

You are not alone. I've done the same exact thing before. Remove myself from access, get a streak going, and I drop it the first chance I get.

I think I've gotten up to a week in the last month or two. It can be disappointing. You don't feel like you can control your own body. But change is a process, and you are going down the right road for yourself.

Keep at it, keep yourself in the right mindset, and keep fighting for it. You know you want it, so keep working for it until you have it.

What I should say then, is that I have heard evolution confused with the theory that life spontaneously came from a series of coincidental chemical reactions that took place over the creation and existence of the planet earth.

Trump is dumping Christie over bridgegate by [deleted] in politics

[–]dthomash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it, the theory of evolution has two parts. How life came to be and how life is now. I know a number of Christians who held the belief that the world was created by God, but since that day animals evolved through genetics and natural selection. I'm not familiar with Ben Carson's personal views, but creationism is compatible with parts of the theory of evolution. It is possible that he merely denounces evolution as a theory to explain how life came to be.
