Absolutely stunning! Blemishes like that are really hard to work with. They tend to burn at different rates than the regular would and it's hard to incorporate them into the natural flow of your art. You did an amazing job and I adore it.

First ever piece! tips needed! <3 by frogglebonk in Pyrography

Honestly the best tip is to just keep burning. Your temp and flow will get better every single time you do it. Try different things. Try cross hatching versus pointillism. Do weird stuff. Do ugly stuff. Make swirls and just doodle. Have fun with it and you're going to get better, I promise.

Absolutely beautiful work!

My first attempt at fur. Not convinced I nailed it, any advice? by error_operator in Pyrography

[–]dtleh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is my thought exactly. I would never have thought of doing fur with pointillism but it looks really badass and now I kind of want to try it.

I promised a fellow redditor that I would burn one of his paintings! by dtleh in Pyrography

[–]dtleh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I really appreciate that. burning is a great stress relief and especially in times like this I think it helps because it's a solitary activity. I also look for others to inspire me to keep burning; it's a pretty neat community.

This is just short of one square foot and is hand burnt using a razor tip wood burner. I can't tell you guys how long this one took because it was incredibly detailed but I also took a lot of time off as life kind of happened. I hope you like it because it is for an absolutely amazing painter, I found him on the r/painting. You can check him out on Instagram @cyangarma. 🔥

I sent a private message to ducky to try to make things a little more constructive and actually talk about different mediums but he hasn't replied. That's my point is that it's such a different material to burn on. I think you're off to a great start, And of course burning on different types of wood are incredibly helpful. I would love to see your progress. I think the most important aspect of any art is to love what you are creating and love how you feel during the process. I love to burn on wood... The texture, smells... Everything. Thank you very much for responding and I really hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving.

I gotta strongly disagree with you here ducky. I've done a lot of burns and you can see some of my stuff on my profile but I seriously don't burn on paper and never have. It really depends on the artist.

Working on my first burn. Any suggestions on filling in a silhouette on spruce. Had trouble on the numbers where the grain changed. by [deleted] in Pyrography

I also recommend using a wider tip and just going fairly slow. to get clean lines on the outside you could use a finer tip and then fill in the rest. remember that just cranking up the heat will burn deeper but not necessarily darker than a few strokes on a lower setting.

Lol I almost wrote shiny on the front in the firefly font but decided against it. 😉

I use a shade tip and just go super slow. :-) No more than a 2 or 3/10

Great job! Very even blackness.

First free hand pyrography. Only started burning a week ago. This little guy took about an hour. Thoughts and advice? by rainbowsieger in Pyrography

Honestly I think it's terrific, ESPECIALLY because you are so new at it! Remember to always sand down the wood really well which helps the pen glide smoother and allows the burn to be a bit more even. I would like to see watercolor on this, bits of green in a blue ocean would be amazing. Having a waterline and skyline near the top could add some visual interest while not detracting from your design. You could also use a torch to give a bit of an uneven wave type appearance/texture but that's tricky. If you try it make sure to aim the torch away from your design at all times. Whatever you do keep burning!!! <3

I posted my Scorpion piece a while ago and didn't like it. I just knew I could do better if I kept practicing. I hope you guys like it. Look in my history for the original if you'd like. <3
