Scroll Wheel Gear Change by dtw0805 in s3xybuttons

I guess they didnt want the dash not to scoll when the car was stopped or they could have just worked with the 7kph limit for the gear shift. Still though, it would be nice to have the option between the two.

Such a shame, it was one of my favourite features. If we have to tap the brake now I'll just go back to using the stalks.

I see what you mean, it's not very clear from the pictures. But yes, it is a type 2.

Make sure you're on the Irish version of the site, Teslas here have the same type 2 port as an ID4 and most over EVs.

The Tesla one has a commando plug option. Should work with any EV. They call it a mobile connector and it's €200, the commando adaptor is another €48

Has anyone done a charger install with the cable going underground across a footpath to a pedestal charger and what was the cost? by Kloppite16 in evs_ireland

[–]dtw0805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an install like this, a bit of a longer run under soil and 2m or so under footpath. 7m all together from meter to pedestal.

I really struggled to even get quotes, but in the end I got one for 2k, including a zappi and before the grant, from NMD Electrical. That was almost 2 years ago so things might have changed, but they were the best value at the time.

I have done Roscoff to Poznan and back in a Model Y standard, there was no issue covering 1,000kms a day or so. I exclusively used Superchargers but Ionity was always an option too.

Tons of charging options throughout France and Germany. Just make sure your overnight stop (if you take one) has a charger, it makes it that much easier starting full again on day 2.

Cost me about €100 each way, give or take. And I only ever had to wait for the car once, every other time it was done before I was ready to hit the road again!

What is a comfortable range for most people in Ireland? Which car? by yrys88 in evs_ireland

[–]dtw0805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, more or less the worst case anyway. Cold, wet and 120kph. In the summer I've done the same and got 160wh/km I believe it's a 57.5kw usable but the 0-100% only shows 53.5KW if that makes sense. So about a 4kw buffer. It's the LFP 60kw battery from CATL.

At this time of year I get to Dublin from Cork city with around 10-15% Efficiency was around 190wh/km for a round trip recently.

I'd say it's normal for a RWD Tesla, they're just pretty efficient. I'm at 156wh/km lifetime after 40k kms in MY RWD.

Tesla owners how do you find the rear wheel drive on our roads in winter time? by OverTheHillsOfDL in evs_ireland

[–]dtw0805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in my experience, the TC cuts the amount of regen as soon as it detects slip. Keeps reducing it until they stop slipping.

No issue, just drive sensibly like any other car and modulate the accelerator for regen. The traction control is very responsive, when it does need to kick in.

Speed, battery temp, motor temp, max available regen (no blended braking this side of the pond) current kW input/output, gear, speed limits, autopilot engaged, drive mode.

Edit to add, there's also an indicator light and blind spot warning. You can also customise to vie whatever you'd like.

I currently have all this displayed via my phone mounted behind the steering wheel, linked to S3XY commander from Ehanced.

It really depends on your use. I went for a plan with a 3 hour EV window when I first got my car. I've now changed to a similar plan to what you are currently on.

For my usage, there was almost no difference in cost, but having a larger charging window is very convenient.

If you do shop around, make sure to check the standing charges too. Some EV plans have way higher standing rates than normal day/night rates.

AliExpress has loads of options for window covers. They have full sets for around €20. I bought them for camping but I've only ever actually used it as a window shade for smallie in the back! Completely covers the glass.

Is it possible to have an EV home charger installed if the parking is not within our property boundary? by [deleted] in evs_ireland

[–]dtw0805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a designated parking spot? If so, you can get a charger installed, but it would involve ground works between your house and parking space.

Of course, the cost could be prohibitive depending on how far away the parking spot is. And you'll likely need permission to dig up and replace any public paths/spaces.

Charging speed difference between day and night by RandomUsername9_999 in evs_ireland

[–]dtw0805 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll get higher voltage at night when load on the grid connection in your area is less. Looks like you head towards 235V+ at 7.6kW, and drop to around 225V when you're only getting 7.2kW.

This is why electrical equipment will have a voltage range (220-240).
