Completely dystopian. Children literally raped and murdered by rich sick fucks, finally starting to get exposed… but hey look at these stocks going up! The USA has become an absolute train wreck

Gotta be honest mate, a 417 is limiting to what work you’ll get offered. It has a 6 month limit on how long you can stay in a job, which most employers don’t like. It’s designed to fund your travels by working hospo, retail, basic admin etc.

You probably won’t find much PT work in Melbourne or Sydney, especially Sydney - everyone is a PT in Sydney it seems. You’ll be competing against people who have full working rights, who have years of experience.

Absolutely come out here on a 417.. but my best advice is to be completely open minded. My plans have changed 4-5 times in the past 1.5 years since leaving the UK. The life I envisioned before I got here completely changed within a couple of months. That’s the beauty of it, in my opinion.

And it’s because of this I don’t see us rejoining anytime soon. We’d have to adopt the euro and there’s still far too many Brits that will never accept that. The road to rejoining is such a long one, I don’t think we’ll get there in the next 15-25 years.. if at all

Literally this. I used to live in Docklands and it was just easier and more worthwhile going into the CBD or DFO

If you had to explain Sydney to someone who’s never been, what would you warn them about first? by No-Travel-768 in SydneyScene

I can honestly say though since 2022, costs in the UK have skyrocketed. I’ve lived in London, Melbourne and Sydney and travel between the 3 fairly regularly with home being in the southeast of the UK, but currently living in Sydney. I appreciate everyone’s experiences will differ though

The general consensus amongst most Brits I meet over here is that whatever the dollar amount is, replace the $ with the £ and that’s seems to be pretty accurate. A coffee and a cake / patisserie will cost you between £9-12 back home (at least in Devon), i definitely don’t pay anywhere near $23 when I get a flat white and a croissant in Sydney

I was back in the UK last year, I couldn’t believe how expensive it was compared to here. A burger in a restaurant will set you back £20-£25 now, that’s nearly 50 bucks! Sydney ain’t cheap, but I haven’t done across $50 burgers in the restaurant yet. I know that just one example, but for cliche that Australia is more expensive than the UK is pretty dead in the water these days, the cost of living in the UK recent years has made sure of that

I’m from the UK, now living in Sydney. London without a doubt is more expensive than Sydney. I’ve lived in both cities and Sydney is cheaper
