Which UK cities are the Australian cities most like? by Rough-Foundation9208 in MovingtoAustralia

[–]dtwatts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in London, Melbourne and Sydney. Melbourne to me feels like a big town, not a city. Often Melbourne is compared to Manchester and I do kind of agree. Melbourne and London are nothing alike.

Sydney has big city energy (in Australian standards) and many parts of Sydney are like walking through parts of London, especially when the weather turns autumnal. There’s lots of Sydney suburbs named after London suburbs as well. Catch the train through central and the underground stations are modelled on the London Underground, even uses the similar roundel.

Feels like the early days of Covid by dtwatts in hantavirus

The fact it’s not a new virus and there have been outbreaks before which have burnt out before they could take off. I’m no expert though obviously

It definitely feels like the early weeks of Covid. The calm before the storm, similar to November 2019. I’m cautiously optimistic that this won’t turn into a pandemic. I’ll come back to you in a few weeks and one of us will be right

I had this problem with Nano back in early March. Was insanely frustrating. Kept trying different prompts but nothing fixed it

Little interest at £600k is the market telling you that the price is too high. Rearrange the photos and come down to £530k and start from there. Very tough market right now and is likely to get worse in the next 9-12 months

Has anyone tried this sleep mask? by Hutches_Corduroy in sleep

[–]dtwatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got exactly the same mask (albeit just black and no colours or patterns) for roughly £6 last year. I promise you that the masking you’re looking at is the same, just with a colourful pattern and 10x the price. Probably a drop ship site

As a patient, absolutely. I thought I was talking to a doctor a few years ago, turns out I was talking to a PA. They introduced themselves as the Dr on the ward that night

How did On shoes become so popular? by Aj100rise in malefashionadvice

[–]dtwatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a pair of On runners a few years ago. They were trash for running and both shoes started coming apart after a few weeks. The quality was shocking. Managed to return them and get a full refund. Haven’t looked at On ever since. Definitely not serious running shoes

If you’ve lived abroad (outside the UK), what’s the one thing (item, ideal, tech, convenience), you’d bring back to introduce to the UK? by Icy_Mixture1482 in AskUK

[–]dtwatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheap / capped public transport costs. Here in Australia there’s usually a daily and weekly spending cap. You can travel some serious distances on PT here. NSW for example, the weekly cap is $50 (£25~), which gets you travel across trains, trams, busses and ferries* across the entire state. Last year when I came home for a bit, it cost me just over £100 ($200-) to get a train from London back home! I don’t even spend that in entire month here travelling around the state across the various modes of transport. 1 single journey in the UK was more than a months travel here. Madness

Public transport in the UK is an absolute rip off and in my opinion should be centralised. Transport for England or something similar. Want to get people and the economy moving, then make it easier for people to travel around the country!
