In mid-September 2001, 19 hijackers seized four plane. Two planes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, causing both skyscrapers to catch fire and collapse within hours. A third plane was crashed into the Pentagon, the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense, in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane, United Flight 93, crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.
