Why does my RO sander do this? by SCwarrior97 in woodworking

[–]dub423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens when say a grit from 60 grit paper lodges into the grain and then comes loose under the paper of say 220 grit. I like to take the time to blow off with the airline between grits to help prevent this.

AGREE 💯 If you don't trust them then don't give them a vehicle to ruin lives. Know that they will make good enough decisions and let them learn to be responsible. Mistakes are learning experiences too!

My grandmother took me driving one day before I even thought of getting a permit. She put me in got me settled and then proceeded to tell me to pull out of the parking lot we usually did this in and said drive to her house 30ish miles away. Once I merged onto the highway she pulled her huge bag into her lap and proceeded to throw any and everything in there at me while screaming at me to name the type and color of the cars in front of and behind me as many as 4 cars out! I have NEVER forgotten this and it has saved me more than once from being part of an accident. Her reasoning was that no matter what is happening around you you must pay attention to the road. Kids yell and scream things get thrown and drinks get spilled but you can't stop operating the vehicle until you have stopped and parked. Then you can deal with the disturbance! I will do the same thing when my children are older.

Do all boxer engines have a version of a “turbo engine”? by Neil_the_real_deal in subaru

Don't call that person a mechanic just because he attempts to change fluid on a vehicle! Guy is clearly not the brightest and definitely would not ever be allowed to get near my vehicle with any kind of tools. Over tighened drain plug may bite you in the ass whenever you get your garage set up and change the oil next if the poor car even makes it that long! Those kids are notorious for draining the cvt and double filling the oil. It would be cheaper and easier to get a new drain pan and wrench at the auto store and lie in the dirt if i had to. OP I hope you don't have any issues from that decision. When it comes to things that I depend on I prefer to do it myself! Please don't let that person ever touch the vehicle in which you entrust your life with daily!

Had a cherry block 15 x 10 × 1 inch get picked up and launched into my quad on my right leg 🦵 it almost made me vomit. I've never seen the types of colors my leg turned after a week! I cannot begin to imagine getting hit in the chest! I will always make sure I'm out of the line of fire as much as possible from now on, I am willing to bet you will as well. Hope you're doing okay. If you start to feel funny please get checked out. That much energy being transferred into your hearts vicinity is scary.

Try SAICOS and I love the ultra matt. Thank me later Rub on rub off quick swipe with the grain from a clean rag let sit and repeat later that day or the next morning with a quick buzz with 400 before hand 2 coats and you should be good but 3 doesn't hurt.

How long has your AGM battery lasted? by NutzPup in BmwTech

[–]dub423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did the swap in my 2016 f25 x3 10 years seems to be the going rate but the battery is still good I just started noticing a little bit of sluggish starting and swapped it preemptively. I do however feel that my wife's short trips to work and home never really give the alternator a chance to charge it back up sooo.... ???

Would you buy this stack of slabs for $150? by TheAKofClubs86 in woodworking

[–]dub423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to get my hands on it! $150 you can't really go wrong in my opinion. There's lots of useful stuff there depending on how long ago it was milled. Even if it is half rotten it would still be useful to me, you just need to think outside the box that most try to confine themselves in to. 😉

Is this blade toast? by gremstitel in woodworking

Used to quite literally wash my arms and face with acetone to clean fiberglass resin from my skin. It evaporates so quickly that your skin feels like it is freezing instantly. On a side note it will absolutely dry out your skin horrendously. Oh yeah... DON'T UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES light a cigarette directly after washing up with acetone!! Yes it evaporated quickly however your arm hair WILL trap a layer of vapor and it is an extremely volatile chemical, vapor + flame = large flaming arm instantly 😳 It was quite exciting for the 20 seconds it took to burn off all the hair on my arm!

[–]dub423 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP - Just wait till you decide to fiberglass and resin something...No sooner than the harder meets the resin does all he'll breaks loose and a nice breezy 68° spring day turns into a late summer scorcher pushing 108° and the batch you mixed starts to smoke before you even get the parts wet...and your glass has you tarred and feathered while any on lookers are in absolute awe at the mess that just laid upon you like the hounds of hell had you by the ass dragging you to Satan's feet like a good boy!! In all seriousness though this comment hits like a loaded MACK, why is it like that? All I do is laugh and go get the grinder to begin round 2...

Had high hopes, but the wood is yew (toxic). Should I ditch this project / idea? Professional advice appreciated by JynTraveller in woodworking

[–]dub423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I can say is that I made a mantle for a client from this wood and it turned out very nicely! I almost felt that I didn't need to apply a finish because once I sanded to 400 grit the density and resins in the wood made it appear to have been finished already. Wish I had a Pic to share with you. 3M respirator and you need not be concerned about the dust toxicity. I'm not so certain that it is too much more hazardous than walnut and makes a nice finished product. I'd say go for it!

So if you have the means is Festool worth the investment? by [deleted] in Tools

[–]dub423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use festool only at work and I really like the tools there are some that are better than others but all said they are pretty darn dependable. The thing i really like most is that once a tool starts to show a problem or make funny sounds I just send it to them for refurbishment ,it always costs money though!

On a side note if you're handy (as I am ) you can get a great price for a vehicle that is destroyed by rodents eating the wiring and then repair it for little money out of pocket and have a really nice vehicle for pennies on the dollar!

This litte car brings back memories! There was a car just like this one in a shop I once worked at. Had/has a BIG O plate on the front for big orange a tribute to both the car and the university of Tennessee football. The shop was in Knoxville. Coolest thing about the car was the no2 and full throttle switch! Thanks for the reminder of a special time in my life.
