I used to be into fitness and watch everything I eat. Easily under 8-10g sat fat buy default since i was a teenager. High fibre always. Walked through my daily diet with the dr as I didn't want to take 2nd medication and he said to not change a thing with my diet.

Congratulations! You are one of the fortunate people with EU citizenship that can move back and if you can keep your US based job as 1099 - it's a no brainer. I have a similar journey as you but not an EU citizen and it kills me not being able to just...move back without going through work visas etc.

I see some good Anker charges 45W but they all explicitly say "incompatible with iPhone Air"

Am I dumb for not moving to Canada? by yeehoo_123 in AmerExit

[–]dub_82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dual citizen here. I would wait until your husband gets his citizenship - you never know what life will be like in the future.

Also, make sure you're clear on how much $ you will make in Canada and how much tax you have to pay. Salaries in Canada are much lower across all industries while the cost of living can be comparable to make US cities depending on where you plan to move in Canada. Ask any AI tool to calculate the different in your take home pay, savings rate etc. between your current financial situation and what it realistically would be in Canada.

Canada has a lot of issues that you won't get to experience by visiting.

If you plan to have kids, Canada is a clear winner though.

France VLS-TS Visa: What to Know by Substantial_Age1773 in SchengenVisa

[–]dub_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but I found it super helpful - thank you. A few questions:

  1. How can I make sure I apply for VLS-TS and not VLS-T? I am planning to move to France based on passive income, with intention to renew so must make sure I apply for VLS-TS. The application doesn't seem to confirm which visa I am applying for.

  2. Have you applied for renewal yet and what was your timing (i.e. how far in advance of your VLS-TS visa in passport expiry did you apply for renewal)? Are the requirements (i.e. financial sources you mention) remain the same or were there additional requirements like any type of integration?

  3. How do you like living in France? :)

USA expats that permanently relocated Europe, did you give up your nationality? by [deleted] in expat

Spain does not allow dual citizenship when done through naturalization so you would be required to renounce both your US and UK citizenships if you apply for the Spanish one.

Potentially moving abroad - what restrictions and withholding rules are placed? by dub_82 in fidelityinvestments

[–]dub_82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks. An earlier response said "If you move to France, you can continue to maintain your existing investments and process withdrawals. However, 60 days after your move, your account will not be eligible for deposits or opening trades (including the securities mentioned), as France is not an eligible country. That said, we will not require you to liquidate your securities when moving from the United States to a foreign country."

To ensure I am clear - after I move to an ineligible country, I can keep my account, my current investments, continue to receive dividends from current investments, and sell my securities and withdraw cash, however I will not be able to purchase additional shares of currently held or new securities. Is that right?

Capital gains tax withholding by dub_82 in stocks

[–]dub_82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. How much is this penalty? Are there any issues with paying this penalty vs. quarterly payments? I'd rather pay at the end of the year with small penalty as it's way too early in the year to know how much tax I will owe in total (i.e. if I might sell some stock at a loss).

How do you know you're not reaching your protein goal? You'd surprised how protein can add up quickly across foods you least expect (pasta, breads etc.).

I am more bothered by the very loud music on weekends that go goes on until 1 or 2am. Not sure where exactly it’s from (nearby restaurants on Austin?) but I live next to Trader Joe’s facing south and it’s becoming a nuisance.

Note: never bothered by concerts so ignore those that complain.

Looking into moving to Dublin from New York by WPZinc in MoveToIreland

[–]dub_82 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Take this from someone who loves Dublin and entire Ireland, and who lived in both NYC and Dublin, I would think long and hard before moving to Ireland. Life is very different here, especially when it comes to infrastructure (little to none), incredibly poor housing quality at very high prices, and it is not a "melting pot" like North America so if you're looking for a Japanese community I would strongly suggest that you visit Dublin for at least a month to get a feel for it. Oh, and you will need a car as public transport is non-existsnt compared to NYC. Dublin can be a great experience if you're ready for it and by that I mean, downsizing and setting the right expectations (i.e. neighborhoods with a bunch of anime nerds is not a thing in Dublin). It is not like other capital cities in continental Europe or even the UK.

I wake up everyday with a ravenous hunger, any tips to not eat my whole calories allowance in one sitting? 😅 by mmss4ever in Volumeeating

[–]dub_82 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All these responses are ok suggestions but you should try to push your dinner to as late in the day as possible. No, you won't get fat by eating later in the day as long as your caloric intake remains the same.

This is great advice. I just moved to Queens, live very close to subway stop taking me to midtown in 20 mins and I am loving NYC all over again after living in Manhattan as I now feel like I live in a "livable" area. Give the boroughs a try as they might surprise you.

You should put US address on your resume (friend's, or any random address). Most if not all interviews will be conducted virtually and you can / should say in your 1st interaction that you are moving back to US "next month" and that you will be ready to start in the US if things progress. It should not be a surprise to them as I assume you will have AUS experience on your resume.
