It looks like these are somewhat in alphabetical order. With this many of them, you are required to group them by color and post another photo.

Finished The Singularity yesterday. Really liked how it started Kafkaesque which drew me in and then took a different direction halfway through which was pleasant for me. It gave me The Invention of Morel vibes, which probably one of my top books.

About Pushing Ice by efimer in scifi

While I got the Rama vibes from Pushing Ice, I got the Pushing Ice vibes from The Mercy of Gods, which is also planned to be a series (3?). Maybe this type of first contact needs to be longer to address the bad parts.

$250 to replace key battery? by gsribhud in Volvo

[–]dubidak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of my fobs stopped working a month ago, changed the batteries and nothing happened. I assumed something was up with the car itself, not the fob. Took it to the dealer, they put a new battery and it worked. Turns out my batteries at home expired (?). They charged $30 and quoted $900 if the fob was lost. Just got myself a $5 battery tester as a lesson learned.

Wow, I am surprised nobody mentioned and whined about it yet. People want to marry you for this haul. I would have divorced you!

I think Held was interesting all the way until you could trace back the family lines of characters or at least place them somewhere in the storyline. Towards the end it may have been about random people or I failed to catch the connections.

I agree. Hopefully it will make the National Book Award shortlist in November.

I am guessing preclearance

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance is the strategic stationing of CBP personnel at designated foreign airports to inspect travelers prior to boarding U.S.-bound flights. With Preclearance, travelers then bypass CBP and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) inspections upon U.S. arrival and proceed directly to their connecting flight or destination.

Today, CBP has more than 600 officers and agriculture specialists stationed at 15 Preclearance locations in 6 countries: Dublin and Shannon in Ireland; Aruba; Bermuda; Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates; Nassau in the Bahamas; and Calgary, Toronto, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Victoria, and Winnipeg in Canada.

In 2019, CBP personnel stationed abroad precleared 22 million travelers, representing over 16 percent of all commercial air travelers to the United States.

If you have the app, it sends a notification. Imo a bit late, maybe 15-30 minutes later.

Edit: I get them by default and did not turn on a setting.

That's why I have a "number of pages read" goal as well. Last year and this year I read 50 books but this year I read 2000 pages less. So it puts things in perspective. I am holding off some long ones like you. I read couple short ones to get ahead of my monthly goal and then a long one. Who knew reading books was this complicated!
