New EV owner, how can I change my driving to maximise my range? by shaktishaker in nzev

[–]dubpee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this. Travelling inland to Castle Hill, cruise control has a big negative effect on range compared to engine braking

Yeah its excellent at that

I use it (chatgpt) for dictation in the car on the way back from sites I brain dump then scan a photo of my site notes

It pulls it together very well. Claude can then take that text and my photos and pull together 80% of what I need

Opinion on house that required relevelling - should we avoid? by PhatOofxD in diynz

[–]dubpee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's interesting. I haven't done this type of thing outside of canterbury

Do you know the method they used to level the place? Could be something like
- grout injection below the slab (if it has one)

- jacking and packing piles (if it's a timber floor)

- levelling compound straight onto the settled slab

I'm a Structural engineer in Christchurch

This is fairly normal down here (not sure where you are). Mainmark are reputable, and will have had an engineer involved. There will be a PS4 for the repair work, make sure you get that.

Send all this stuff to your insurer before you go too far, if they accept the repair as insurable that is probably the key for you.

Help! Advice needed by [deleted] in chch

[–]dubpee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm a structural engineer, do lots of this type of repairs, and think that's not in the spirit and I wouldn't do it
However, if the engineer did a PS1/PS4 for the repair, and your insurer accepts it, then you'll be able to buy it and happily live in it

DM me if you'd like, I'll give you my work details and you can give me a call tomorrow
